Guest JAxlMorrison Report post Posted May 14, 2003 I like to consider myself a "smart fan." I own a pretty extensive library of wrestling tapes. I was a pretty huge ECW fan, I had been to several Arena events, watched every one of their PPVs, but I didn't watch as much when they got their TNN show. I used to watch ever single Raw and Nitro from mid 96 (Hogan as a hee brought me back) until probably the bomb that was the Invasion. Since then, my wrestling viewing has been sporadic at best. My interest has gone up and down with different things, most of them nostalgic, such as the return of the NWO, Hogan-Rock, the first HBK-HHH match, etc. The release of some of my favorites, including Raven, Perry Saturn, and D-Lo Brown have affected my viewing, as has the distinct lack of Foley. The chronic misuse of some talented guys such as Rob Van Dam and Booker T, as well as HHH's refusal to put them over, has kept me from tuning in, as well as the recent misuse of Chris Benoit......I mean, Cena? C'mon....we all see how well Cena-Lesnar turned out. I don't even need to mention things as stupid as necrophilia angles, do I? But here's my top reason why I stopped regularly viewing their programming. 3 Minutes. No, not the fatass, talentless tag team, although I reach for the remote every time they come onscreen, and sometimes do not put the show back on. I am talking about the ridiculously short amount of time they give the boys to tell a story in the ring. It isn't rocket science, if you put RVD-Storm, Angle-Benoit, Booker T-Christian, Eddie G-Misterio just to name a few pairings, in the ring for 15-20 minutes, they could probably all put on ***+ matches. But no, we get 3-6 minutes per match, no time to do anything and the same damn spots from everyone over and over. I mean, I am a huge RVD fan, and the Rolling Thunder used to be an astonishing move, but I barely pop during anything the guy does anymore cause I have seen it a thousand times. And it's not like I am gullible enough to see anything changing. We will probably be forcefed guys like Nathan Jones, Big Show, Albert, and 3 Minute Warning for years to come. The same bullshit "CRASH TV" and 3-6 minute match format will probably never be changed. BUT.......that's why a guy like Bill Goldberg can pop a rating and generate interest in the product again. People like myself are so tired of these talentless wonders Vince and Co. are shoving down our throats, that seeing a guy like Goldberg destroy them makes me and most of the casual fanbase mark out. I'd compare him to Butterbean, the "King of the 3 Round Fight", or whatever he was called. Watching a Butterbean fight was like watching a trainwreck, and if you were into that kind of thing, no one could make a three round fight more entertaining. Goldberg has the same appeal......no one can succeed in that 3-6 minute formula like Goldberg, and no one can make those 3-6 minutes more entertaining. Look, I know the guy doesn't know a wristlock from a wristlock, but what he lacks in skill he makes up for in intensity and I don't see a whole lot of intensity on WWE TV these days, and if I do it generates yawns (Kane) or laughter (Nash). They changeds his music, they put him in skits that were almost fatal to his character, and they paired him against the ultra-charasmatic Rock, who turned face in their match, and still, Goldberg has managed to get over and has managed to get my attention. Trust me, knwoing one of the only reasons I tune into Raw is to see Goldberg makes me feel dirty and markish. But its the truth, and hopefully Vince gets his balls back, gets his brains back, gets HHH out of his ear, and lets Goldberg run with the ball, and the first major target should be total annihilation of HHH at Summerslam, or hopefully sooner, before the Kliq lovefest that is stinking up my television these days does permanent damage to the product. Thanks for taking your time to read this mess.

Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted May 14, 2003 Um his 3-6 matches are entertaining??? I'll need some time to craft a proper response to this Suicidal proposal to let Goldberg of all people to "Run with the ball"
Guest JAxlMorrison Report post Posted May 14, 2003 It's funny, when he first came back I tuned in just to watch him screw up. But the guy won me over, something I never thought would happen. And I don't see how giving him the proverbial ball is suicidal, the way they've been running the company since HHH returned last year, now that's suicidal. HHH vs. Kane, HHH going over Van Dam, HHH vs. Nash.....all suicidal. Look, it's been my viewpoint and a lot of other people feel the same way that if Kevin Nash didn't put himself over Goldberg at Starrcade '98 that company wouldn't have had the rapid descent that it did. I mean, Goldberg was the top draw in the business for most of 1998 remember, I don't see why he couldn't be again.

Guest Downhome Report post Posted May 14, 2003 Goldberg is not a savior for anything, especially not WWE. He can simply be a sort of "draw", used to get peoples attention. If they can push him correctly, and use him in that way, then when people tune in will see the rest of the product. If they could somehow put forth a solid show/product, for the ENTIRE two hours, then they'd be getting somewhere. The best way to use Goldberg is to place him in very important segments, as they have been doing, and then hope that somewhere along the lines, the fans see something else that catches their eyes. All the while, they need to have Goldberg in SOME sort of meaningfull storyline, in the eyes of the casual fans, in order to keep their interest in him. A single man can not help WWE, it will be a group effort of EVERYONE who they put on TV, and if the writers can somehow do what I said above (which truly wouldn't be as hard as they make it seem I don't think), then they'll be stable.
