Guest Tim Cooke Report post Posted March 25, 2002 I spent some time dubbing some Fit Finlay matches for a friend this weekend and came to the realization that if he had wanted to, Finlay would have been a nice fit for AJPW in the mid 1990's. I was watching some of his matches in WCW against Benoit and he had that crazy Stan Hansen look in his eye and in his wrestling. He would brawl all day with you, hitting you as hard as he could and expecting the same out of his opponents. Finlay was also under rated a little in the way he presented his matches. On the Indy curcuit today, everyone creams their shorts for stiffness. Finlay was stiff but also used it in context within all of his matches. He wasn't a 200 pound Low Ki type guy doing stiffness for the sake of it.....Finlay thrived on the pain to keep him going and showing what type of man he really was. Watching his matches this weekend made me realize what I miss about Free US TV.....no variety of matches, no real thought put into what actually happens in the ring, etc. I could only dream of what fun Finlay could have had battling the likes of Misawa, Kobashi, Kawada, Hansen, Williams, Taue, etc in the mid 90's. Tim, a dreamer of sorts.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted March 25, 2002 I agree, Finlay was awesome. I'd say the same thing about Regal too, his in-ring talents have been wasted in the WWF without anyone else who works that style. (And thanks for the Low-Ki blast, I'm sloooooowly finding more people who agree with me about his overhyped talents.)
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted March 25, 2002 If Regal and Finlay were apart of All Japan, I could see them being two of the most over gaijin to have worked for the federation. I could easily see a Finlay-Regal team going against some of the big guns from the mid-90's
Guest stretch plum Report post Posted March 25, 2002 Finlay didn't really fit in the NJ Jr. division during his brief stints there, AJ did seem like a better environment for his brawling style but I don't know if he would have gotten much of a push. Baba liked his gaijin big and southern. Not exactly Finlay's mold.
