Your favorite bret hart match

Ok, I've been watching alot of Bret Hart matches lately and I was thinking about how great of a wrestler he was. So what would be your favorite Bret Hart match? Don't make a list of all of his great matches but explain which match of his is your favorite.

 

My favorite has to be the WM10 match with Owen. I can't see one flaw in the match and the two had perfect chemistry together. Not only my favorite Bret Hart match but one of my favorite of all-time

Bret v Owen for me as well.  Not only the best Bret match, but the best match ever IMO.....and he LOST CLEAN.  I've watched it at least 20 times.

I'll jump on he bandwagon here and say Bret/Owen, with the cage match from Summerslam coming in 2nd.  I was also really digging the Survivor Series 97 against HBK, until something happened, I can't remember exactly what it was, but I remember something wierd happened at the finish.

Hart vs Austin the match where Austin had the Million Dollar Dream on Hart with Bret running up the ropes for a reversal and pin.

Bret Vs Austin at WM 13 is number 1 for me, but I also really like Bret Vs Perfect at SummerSlam 1991, which was a classic.

Its probably not his best match, but I really enjoyed his match against Diesel at King of the Ring 1993. Hart was World Champ and Diesel was IC Champ at the time. Good Stuff!

Just to add something different, his Nitro match with Benoit in tribute to Owen was very very good.

I'll have to say Owen V Bret also, I just love the sequence where they're pushing eachother and then Owen connects with a really loud slap lol, then hides off in the corner behind the ref..

 

The cage match at SummerSlam is the best cage match I've ever seen, the bits where Owen is making desperate dives in the direction of the door really had me in suspense..

 

A forgotten classic would be Bret Vs Bulldog, December 1995 In Your House...Bret bleeds "like a pig" as JR would have said as the fans chant "He's Hardcore! He's hardcore!" lol

 

It was the first time I'd seen blood in the WWF too since becoming a fan at the 94 RRumble..

 

His matches with Austin, Taker (SS97, One Night Only 97) and even Diesel at SSeries95 were extremely enjoyable too.

Hart vs Austin the match where Austin had the Million Dollar Dream on Hart with Bret running up the ropes for a reversal and pin.

Same finish for the Bret/Piper IC Title match at WM 8, one of my favorites.

 

Face versus face title matches are surprisingly full of great psychology and good heat (Savage/Warrior and Bulldog/Bret at Summerslam 92, etc.) This one is no different.

 

All-time fav, though, is Owen/Bret at Summerslam 94 in a cage. The fact that the WHOLE MALE Hart family got physically involved (Anvil, Bulldog, Keith, Stu, etc.) was great for the climax. Oh yeah, and great wrestling.

I would have to say that Bret vs. Shawn, Wrestle Mania XII is my favorite, but Bret vs. Flair in their Iron Man match from 93 in Boston would be a close second.

5. Bret Hart VS Shawn Michaels Ladder Match (Late 92) - This was like a colloseum exclusive, it was excellent, and had some spots that were repeated in the two michaels/hall matches

 

4. Bret Hart VS Diesel (Survivor Series 95) - Awesome match, bret took everything, Diesel took his share...

 

3. Bret Hart VS Owen Hart (Summerslam 94) - My favorite owen match, a 30+ minute clinic on old school cage matches

1. Steve Austin VS Bret Hart (SS 96)- not the match your thinking off, this was bret's first match back after his absense in 96, and it tore the house down... an excellent psychological match, and an awesome (although rehashed finish)

Bret vs. Steve Austin, Survivor Series 1996. This was before Austin's neck injury, of course, so he could still put on a really great technical match. These two guys told a great story and the match had a tremendous finish with Bret getting a roll up while Austin had the Million Dollar Dream on. This show is full of great wrestling, including Owen in a 6 man.

My favorite is Bret/Piper from WM 8. A total ass kicking on Piper's behalf, Bret was bleeding like a mother focker. The best was when Piper was going to hit Bret with ring bell, and the crowd was shouting "NO!" and booing. Then Piper throws the bell down w/o hitting Bret and the crowd starts to cheer. That was one of my biggest mark out moments, that and Piper handing the IC title Bret after he loses.

Bret vs Owen - WrestleMania 10. Just an unbelievable straight wrestling match. The crowd heat was incredible. The crowd "ooohhing" a frickin' leg drop still gives me chills. Every move was performed perfectly. Not to mention the neat sequences. From the wicked Tombstone to the brutal German suplex spot, I still haven't seen anything like this.

 

Today, as it stands, it's still my favorite match...EVER.

vs Jerry Lawler/Doink at Summer SLamm'93.

Nobody picked it but his first match with Doink was actaully really good. and then the match with Lawler had sooo much heat it was scarry. A really good fogoten match.

The ladder match is one of the best ladder matches ever, and is definitely the most revolutionary.  The match is the WWF's Most Unusual Matches tape, circa 1995.  There's another tape with that title that features the first ever 10 man tag match in the WWF.  As well as an awesome strap match between Chief Jay Strongbow and Greg "The Hammer" Valentine from 1979.

I'll second the Survivor Series '96 match with Austin. The Wrestlemania XIII match is great and justifiably touted as historic (thanks to the Austin turn) but I've always felt the Survivor Series encounter was the better match.

The Davey Boy Smith match from Summer Slam '92 and the two big Owen matches (Wrestlemania X and Summer Slam '94) would be right up there too.

 

Oh yeah, his match with Shawn Michaels at Survivor Series '92 (his first PPV defense as WWF champ I believe) was probably his best match with the smile-less one.

another diamond in the rough is a cage match bret had with shawn.  it was only around 12 or 13 minutes but it ruled, & they used the finish from it in his cage match with owen a couple years later.  i enjoy it more than the ladder match.

 

yet another diamond in the rough is the semi-famous iron man match he had with flair at boston garden.  it's a little slow, but the psychology is absolutely perfect.  one of his (and flair's) best matches.

 

and yet ANOTHER diamond in the rough is the iron man match he had with owen in the summer of 1994.  the booking is basically lifted from flair's iron man match with an ending that WM12 ripped off, & the spots run a lot like WM10, but bret & owen wrestling for 66 minutes is still a treat.

 

anyway, my favorite is bret/owen, summerslam.

I really like that match where Bret hurt his knee. Oh wait... that was every match he was ever in. Yuk-yuk-yuk.

 

I believe there was at least 1 or 2 years that Bret hurt his knee during every PPV match that he wrestled.
