eBay Davis gives California the finger.

As a lifelong Californian, I've never felt so much animosity towards an elected official as I do to our Democratic governor, eBay Davis.

Davis, in the last four years, has killed California's economy. Who pays for this mishandling now? Us, the California taxpayers. He's now using illegal legislature to bring the automobile tax back to the level it was at in 1998, a tripling of current taxes. Bear in mind, this was on the ballot last year and 85% of voters refused it.

It just makes me sick. He's raising tuition at community colleges, tripling the car tax, and proposing a raise in sales tax among other things. All to fix the spending hole he's created. California has grown 21% in population/inflation since 1998. It's also seen an increase in revenue by 25%. So what does Davis do? He increases spending 40%. Why, in gods name, did ANYONE vote for this a-hole in the last election?! I'm guessing because people thought that Bill Simon would only screw things up even worse.

Also, eBay Davis has the worst approval rating (25%) of any governor in the United States in the entire history of approval rating polls. When he ordered troops to garrison the bridges (despite there being "no credible threat," even according to Tom Ridge and his overly sensitive Department of Homeland Security), and those troops subsequently stayed in FIVE STAR HOTELS, how can you possibly not blame him for causing a huge spending increase?

People are considering recalling this guy, but that'll probably never happen because a vast majority of people probably don't know that can legally happen.

Please hurry up and save us, Ah-Nuld (even though your afterschool program failed and thus may have you rethinking this whole politics thing.) I had no idea things would get this bad.

As a guy about to get financially raped at his local community college so close to a getting a degree AND about to lose his job since the business he works for is leaving California due to its increasingly business-unfriendly environment, all I can say is Gray Davis didn't get my vote in the last election and is fucking sure as hell not getting my vote when it comes to the next poll.

Yah, Davis hasn't done me any favors either. The car tax proposition is just WAY over the line. I didn't vote for him in the last election. Even though I detest Bill Simon and no way in hell want him in the Govenor's chair, I am still considering signing the Davis Recall just to get his ass thrown out of there. Also, I, along with Ced am losing my job anytime know since our company is outta here.

Davis cut... what, $200 million from the UC system? He also cut from the CalState system, although not as much IIRC. That's enough to get me mad at him right there, if for no other reason because... well, where's it all going to instead?

I used to think that Davis got blamed for a lot of stuff he didn't have control over. Now I'm starting to doubt that.

The projected increase in UC tuition is like $1500. I don't know what the exact Cal State figure is.

One of the problems with California is that any candidate that makes it to office has to be down with and essentially approved by:

The insurance industry [non health]

The health insurance industry

The prison industry

Lockheed

The entertainment industry

Carmakers

Whatever useless unions are still in power*

The construction industry

Huge importers like Wal-Mart, Gap inc, etc.

Agribusiness

and more

I just don't think it's possible to suck that much dick and be a decent leader, especially when some of these groups are after each other.

* I like the concept of unions but the onees with all the pull are sucky.

Anyway, has anybody read the defense for Davis on the recall petition? Nice spin on him vetoing $9 billion in spending, but how much did he actually approve and how does that compared to funding due to taxes?

I'd probably sign if I were a registered voter in California.

You know, I'm a lifelong Democrat and followed Davis as he rose through the ranks up to governor.

Why the hell did I do that?

I'd take Arnold as governor right now. Or anyone. Only this nut could screw up an economy as good as California's was. Oh yeah, my major in college was poli sci, and I was hoping to get a government job, but the budget stuff has caused state and local governments to freeze hiring. Great timing.

And a lot of people thought Simon would be worse. If so, I'd really hate to see the damage he would have done.

I think I'm going to sign that petition.

HAHAHAHAHA -- F' California.

You folks voted for him.

I seem to remember years ago Big Media were pimping Davis, among other mayors/guvs as the next generation of leaders.

But then the going got tough...

Actually, I closed my eyes and picked a third party at random. I forget who it was, but it wasn't the Green.

That's what you get for electing a guy named eBay.

Actually, I just call that due to his auctioning off governor powers to whoever is willing to pay for them.

well how do you expect to make a difference voting for someone with no hope of being elected?

Both men were completely incompetant. The Republicans had the option of Richard Riordan but instead went with Bill Simon, who is probably the second least likely man California will ever vote for Governor, next to George W Bush.

I know they'll win the office next time. I'd even bet money on it if Arnold runs.

I didn't vote for Gray Davis. Oh and don't laugh too hard. This budget crisis isn't going to begin & end in CA.

Yea I know... the problem I have isn't just that I have to pay $1500 more for the same (often-shitty) tuition next year, it's that I have to pay more DESPITE every program in the UC system I care about being cut due to the budget. There seems to be all this money for science programs, but humanities? That gets cut due to Gray Davis' budget. And that bothers me.

However, I've finally grown up to become a true adult - I only cared and voiced my opinion when they cut something that affected me. I barely noticed the rest before. But that's because I don't keep up with the news too much.
