Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted May 16, 2003 THE LATEST VERSION May 16, 2003 Finally I'm back-back in the great country of America and back with another edition of "The Latest Version." Sorry it's been so long since my last commentary, but like they say, better late than never. The last two weeks have been a whirlwind, as I am just coming off of touring Canada, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The WWE European tour was a huge success as we wrestled in front of jam-packed, enthusiastic crowds every night. I had some great matches with the amazing Rey Mysterio and the underrated Jamie Noble. I'd like to thank all of the European fans as V1 was greeted with awesome reactions every night. The tour of the U.K. was tough, but we made sure to make the best of it and enjoy ourselves. Shannon and I played golf (or attempted to) in Aberdeen, Scotland, which was filmed for an upcoming Confidential. It should be an entertaining piece. It's too bad that the now-infamous freestyle rap battles that occurred on the European tour bus last Saturday night couldn't be featured in a Confidential piece. All of the boys had a blast and John Cena shined, although Version One surprised everyone with a strong showing. I can't wait to one day rap either with or against Cena on SmackDown! - that's gonna make good television. While on the subject of music, I have a very cool story about my favorite band. While in Seattle for WrestleMania, I met Pearl Jam's Stone Gossard. One of Stone's friends' sons, Carrick, has cancer and is a huge Hardy Boyz and Lita fan. Stone and Pearl Jam's promotion people hooked up the meeting because they had also heard we are Pearl Jam fans. It was cool meeting with Carrick, his family, and Stone. They had a great time because besides meeting Team Xtreme, they also met several other WWE Superstars. Stone told us he would take care of us any time we wanted to go see PJ play. Pearl Jam played in Charlotte on April 16, and Amy and I took Stone up on his offer. Upon arriving at the amphitheater, Amy and I got to meet Pearl Jam, which was a very cool experience. We actually got to sit right beside the band on stage as they put on a kick-ass show. Mike McCready was smiling huge as I rocked out on "Corduroy" and "Rockin' in the Free World." Stone kept checking on us during the show to make sure we were having a good time. Eddie is a very charismatic, entertaining performer and was all over the stage. Eddie and Stone's relationship reminds me of the relationship between Jeff and I when we teamed. Stone is a super guy who I don't think gets the credit he deserves for the success of Pearl Jam. Anyhow, the show was awesome, and I want to thank Stone, Eddie, Mike, Jeff, Matt and all the other Pearl Jam people for treating me so well. Right now I have to take time out and defend myself and the good name of Mattitude. A couple weeks ago, there was a Matt Fact that stated, "Have you read Matt's book?" That was NOT one of the Matt Facts that I had recommended for the evening. As a matter of fact, neither of those Matt Facts were mine, and I thought they came off as very uncreative. Anyhow, I can't say that all of the Matt Facts will be great now because they are not 100 percent in my control. End of defense. I really enjoy Edge's new weekly column. It is always a very fun an insightful read. I especially found his "Caveman Hardy" comments funny-although he was inaccurate when he claimed I never use utensils. One of Edge's favorite things to do is watch me eat corn with a fork. Make sure to check out "The Edgeucation of Adam Copeland" every Tuesday. This is the paragraph of the column for all the diehard Mattitude Followers, where I provide them with hot news before it ever hits television. I have named our group, our unit, our family. I guess it starts with myself, Shannon, and now the Moore-on Crash-but all of you are included. It is the "Society of Unified Mattitude and Mattitude In Training," or the "SUMMIT." So if you're not a member already, join the SUMMIT, and go to new heights in your life. Matt Hardy has already taken Shannon Moore to new heights, but I've got my work cut out for me with Crash the Moore-on. Random thought time-just wanted to mention that I fulfilled a lifelong dream by winning at WrestleMania. Although Rey and I didn't have that much time in our match, I thought we made the most of what we had. Hopefully in the upcoming weeks, V1 and 619 can resume the storyline we started weeks ago. Philosophical time: Change is something that has to happen to everyone and everything. You cannot grow and expand without altering and modifying yourself and your product. You can't stay in one era or period forever and expect to be modern and trendy. Sometimes you have to be out with the old and in with the new. Don't be afraid to change. There is one subject that I definitely had to address in this commentary, and that is my brother, the enigmatic Jeff Hardy. Everyone was shocked to hear that Jeff and the WWE had severed ties. I can't tell you how many times in the last couple of weeks I've been asked about Jeff. Here are my thoughts on the matter. A little over a year ago, Jeff was showing signs of being burned out with the travel and stress that comes with working for WWE. When we split and Jeff was left on his own, I'm sure these issues continued to snowball. Jeff looked for other things to make him happy and keep him creative, such as music and art. Jeff is very unique, and hard for the average person to understand. He is currently in a transitional period, a crossroads, and I think he needs to decide what he really wants out of life. Jeff needs to focus on whatever it is he chooses to do and make the most of it. What will that choice be, you ask? I'm not positive, but I can't see Jeff without pro wrestling/sports-entertainment in his life in some shape or form. Jeff dictates Jeff. Not me, not WWE, not anyone else. I know that Jeff would have loved to say "seeya later" publicly to all his dedicated fans. If nothing else, remember Jeff for all the sacrifices he made to entertain his fans. Remember all the unbelievable bumps, the ladder matches, the table matches, the hardcore matches, the TLC matches, and the risking of life and limb. I personally thank Jeff for making the journey of a lifetime with me-going from nothing to becoming WWE Superstars and champions. It's going to be strange going on without him-but I must go on. Thanks for all the memories, my brother. Hopefully, we will journey together again. Matt Hardy V1 Philosophical time: Change is something that has to happen to everyone and everything. Guest Steviekick Report post Posted May 17, 2003 I really didn't see the philosophy time quote as a shot at jeff. Maybe it's to people who don't understand why Jeff would want to not be in WWE anymore?
Guest Fook_Hing_Ho Report post Posted May 17, 2003 I thought it was directed to the wwe in general, more specifically Vince, because they refuse to change with the times.

I kinda picture someone with his background insisting on the cob.

Then someone decided they needed more "WWF Creative Genius" added to them? Matt needs to watch what he says.

Guest Raven_Effect01 Report post Posted May 17, 2003 Remember when all of Jericho's promo's were great? Then someone decided they needed more "WWF Creative Genius" added to them? And that of course seemed to start Jericho as a face using the same repetitive lines every week that eventually had us calling for him to turn back into a heel for a long time.
