A breif review of my wrestling dvds

Guest bps "The Truth" 21

Eventually I may do a formal rant on them...but for now...

ECW Extreme Evolution:  I'm a fan of all the "best of ECW" releases.  The Main highlight here is Awesome/Tanaka from November to Remember 99.  ***1/2

ECW Path Of Destruction:  My favorite ECW DVD.  Great RVD/BAM BAM match (that I was in the front row for) and Malenko/Guerrero is great.  Good lightweight action with Lynn/Tajiri/Super Crazy and Misterio/Psicosis.  And there's a good 4 way for the tv title too.  *****

ECW Deep Impact:  Taka/Lynn vs. Awesome/Credible is very good and Tajiri/Psicosis is nice too.  ***

ECW Hardcore History:  Benoit/Malenko vs. Sabu/Taz...Misterio vs. Juventud...RVD/Sabu and the infamous ***** Scott Keith match...how can you go wrong? ****

ECW Barely Legal:  IMO the best ECW match ever:  was from a diferent company (Michinoku Pro 6 man) and this dvd proves that RVD can cut a promo.  First ever ECW ppv.  ****

ECW Hardcore Heaven 98:  Best ECW ppv I've ever seen.  Storm/Candido, Lynn/Credible, Awesome/Tanaka are all gold.  Taz/Bam Bam is pretty good and it's fun to count all the blown spots in RVD/Sabu vs. Hakushi/Hayabusa...too bad the main event sucked.  ****1/2

ECW Best of the Dudleys:  Pretty piss poor.  Their Final night in ECW makes it watchable. *1/2

ECW Best of Cactus Jack:  Awesome.  Flat out Awesome.  Great promos and the only matches he ever had in ECW that were worth a damn are on here unclipped.  Including his best ECW match...against Shane Douglas.  For overall content *****.  (goes great with Hard Knocks & Cheap pops)

Speaking of which:

Mick Foley:  Hard Knocks & Cheap Pops:  What can you say...this is the best WWF release EVER.  Mind Games is here unclipped.  That's enough for ***** alone.

WWF Action:  Eh...forget about the actual show...the extras features some decent matches.  (HHH/Jericho, Angle/Austin, Angle/Booker T, Austin/Jericho, Austin/Rock...all from various Raw's or Smackdowns)  You can't argue with the name value on thos matches...but where's TLC III, Austin/Benoit from Smackdown and Austin/HHH vs. Benoit/Jericho...when you think about it...this could have been so much better...**1/2

Best of Raw vol. 1 & 2:  Not too impressive.  There's a bunch of Raw matches (what else) in the extras section...nothing stood out as being very spectacular to me.  **

The rest are WWF ppvs:

Unforgiven 98:  **

Rock Bottom 98:  *(yeah I bought Em...I'm a sucker)

SummerSlam 99:  ***

Royal Rumble 00:  ****1/2

WrestleMania 2000: ****

Summerslam 00:  ****

Survivor Series 00:  **1/4

Royal Rumble 01: ****1/4

WrestleMania X7: *****

Backlash 01:  **1/2

Judgment Day 01: **3/4

KOTR 01: ***

Invasion: **3/4

Summerslam 01: ****3/4

Unforgiven 01: ***

No Mercy 01:  ***1/4

Survivor Series 01: ***1/4

Vengeance 01: ***1/4

Rebellion 01: ***3/4 (E+C cage match was good, Angle/Jericho was good...Rock/Austin disapointed...BUT they have the match where Rock beat Jericho for the WCW title as an extra so...)

Eventually I'll get around to finishing off the ppvs that have been released by picking up WrestleMania 15, and KOTR 2000...although you'll understand why I haven't gone out of my way...

I too, denounce the butchered hack-job that is the Dudley Boyz DVD. Promos and matches cut to SHREDS. The producers spared nothing, and skipped alot of good matches.

And they cut the "If God were a heel" promo! BASTARDS!!

I liked Barely Legal better than Heatwave '98, but both are quite good. Legal gets the duke for nostagic reasons. Haven't bought the best of Cactus yet, but all four Best of ECW DVDs are awesome. Really great stuff.

Where are you during RVD/Bigelow? Do you show up on camera?

Bps21, what do the covers of the Unforgiven & Rock Bottom '98 DVD's look like? Are they the same like their VHS box art?

To Kagato:  Yes I am on camera.  We had seats on camera side.  Here is the easiest way to find me.  Watch the end of the match when RVD wins the title.  Now look at the right side of the screen and there is a guy in a black cartman shirt jumping up and down. (HE is the third one in from the aisle) That is my friend (who gets ALOT of camera time).  I'm sitting on his right in a blue shirt (making me 4th from the aisle...and just out of the generic camera angle that covers most of the match).  I don't beleive there is a good shot of me at the end of the match...but you can see my friend throughout the whole match...so you'll know where to look for me.  There's a couple of times that you can see me during the match.

To Tony:  I assume that the covers are the same as the VHS, (I haven't seen them but they look like they would be) and they have a bif gray border around them and say "WWF attitude collection" on them.  They were released this week along with the other Attitude collection crap:  TLC, 3 Faces of Foley...etc...

They are super cheap, which is why I bought them.  They don't even have a menu on them.  It's just put in and play.

If they have the Undertaker on the cover of Unforgiven & The Rock on the cover of Rock Bottom, then their the same box art. I'm probably going to buy them since I try to buy most PPV DVD's. No matter if they suck. Which I don't think they do, since I may be one of the few who liked Rock Bottom. That PPV actually made me flip to Raw for good while still checking out Nitro.

bps21, The only things on the Dudley Boyz DVD is the kick ass brawl with Spike and New Jack at Guilty as Charged '99 and The prematch promo in Queens at It Aint Seinfeld.

The FMW King of the Deathmatch DVD is pretty damn good. The announcer's suck ass but the matches are awesome. The best match is Megumi Kudo VS Combat Toyota in electrified barbed wire. Anyone who found ECW matches to be extreme (Born to be wired and Stairway to hell 1 excluded) then check FMW out.

What exactly was this promo?  I hear everyone mention it, but I've never heard it.  Do you know anywhere I could download it  or read a transcript?

First off, ***** for the POD DVD?  I agree that it was an excellent tape (I have the VHS, not blessed with DVD yet) but methinks you forgot about the Axl Rotten vs. Ian Rotten "let's all go play with glass" abdomination.  In my mind, that drags the whole tape down a star.

As for the Dudley's promo, I believe the line went like this:

"There comes a time when boys become men, men become legends, and legends become gods.  And if God was a heel, he'd be the Dudley Boys!"  (Crowd boos)

It was right after they beat Balls and Spike to win the belts for the eighth time, right before they lost the belts to Dreamer and Raven.  I think that is what Buh Buh said, since I ripped off the line at a pep rally before a basketball playoff game, changing the heel line to that of our mascot.  Ironically enough, I go to a Jesuit school, so I could have gotten in trouble for mentioning God in a less than worshipful way, but I advocate Satanic worship in religion class, so whatever.
