Guest Cover of Darkness Report post Posted May 19, 2003 Nanks, Connery practically invented the "older, wiser, mentor" role. If anyone could have done Morpheus better then Fishburne; it's Connery. Well, if ALL Connery was required to play was "older, wiser mentor" maybe. No, Connery is all wrong because you've seen Fishburne do it, and accepted him as the one and only Morpheus. Connery would have been excellent in the role. But since the role calls for INTENSIVE physicality, I don't think Connery would be right for the part at all and you sound fucking stupid trying to insist he would. Maybe 20 years ago, but not today. Get over it, Connery mark. Um, I'm sure the role would have been toned down physically, plus he's in great shape for a man his age, couple that with digital enhancements and so on, I don't see how he couldn't. What a maroon. Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted May 19, 2003 Actually Burt Reynolds was up for Han Solo too. He talks about in his autobiography. It's in the group of films he turned down on poor judgement. I could really see Burt saying, "Never tell me the odds." Spielberg, Lucas and Coppola are all huge Reynolds marks and have been wanting to work with him for years. Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2003 the only actor who could have done a better job at playing Morpheus that Fishburne was Avery Brooks.

What a maroon. The Morpheus role HAS to be a physically demanding one in order for it to work and I highly doubt they'd re-write it to be barely ambulatory for the decrepit old Connery, who cares who good a shape he's in for a "man his age"? No one needs Connery that bad as you can see. Fishburne got the role.
Guest cabbageboy Report post Posted May 20, 2003 Well, back to the original point. I can certainly see how the script of the Matrix might have confused Connery, I know it sure as hell confused me on the 1st viewing. But you would think that being from the English Isles he would know something about LOTR.
