I'm sure there's a chapter of good gimmicks gone bad, and Doink is a prime example. Name thing does sound weird, unless RD writes sections "in character" as it were and they want a sort of illusion of two guys involved. Also, I could see RD wanting to use his real name and the publisher wanting to use the gimmick name as being more recognizable to his readers. That's just a mock up anyway, the final cover could still be different.
