Early buyrate reports for Backlash

Recommended Posts

Far fewer buys than expected for Goldberg’s debut

Original surveys of cable operators had palced the buyrate of WWE Backlash of between 425,000 and 500,000 buys, which is above that of No Way out, but lower than hoped for Goldberg’s debut.

However, new reports have the buyrate substantially lower, at around 250,000 buys. For comparison, in its dying days, WCW was getting about 150,000 buys for its PPVs. There are fears that Judgment Day will get below 200,000 buys.

That doesn't sound correct. Some of those late WCW buyrates were in the 0.10-0.15 range. Given that 500 000 buys = 1.0 approximately, those numbers are more like 50-75 thousand buys.

Quick, everyone point and laugh at WWE!

I'll save that when we hit late WCW levels.

Oh, what the hell.

Does anyone else sometimes get the mental image of Vince playing the Violin while the Titan Towers are burning?

I have a mental image of Vince yelling "Stop it! Stop it!", and then running away in tears as a crowd of smarks points and laughs.

More like playing in the band while the ship sinks...

It's too bad we'll never know exactly what impact adding Goldberg had on the number of buys positive or negative.

i really dont think theres a huge ammount of WCW fans left, those ppl have either joined the wwe product or moved on with their lives. Vince isnt going to get them back by bringing in former wcw stars. The boost in the Raw rating is probably from once-disgruntled wwe fans, not lost WCW fans.

It's a delayed sort of reaction... In a few months wrestling fans are bound to come around...

Downhome never said he expected Goldy to pop a huge buyrate, so let him be. Plus they booked him kinda lousy.

Not that I care, although if Goldberg utterly bombs in his future PPV matches I'll be very pleased.

Alyson!

And one match doesn't make a person buy a PPV. Why would a person waste $35 on one match?

The buyrates are down because of the storylines, that is all. One person can't save the company, everyone should know that.

Also, having these hyped up returns at PPVs, and having debut matches on PPV is pretty damn lame.

Vince, you actually expect us to pay to see some washed up WCW hasbeen debut in the fucking MAIN EVENT of a Pay Per View when he was shitty back when he wrestled regularly? Fuck you.

But that's why hewas brought in. To get a monster buyrate. That was the rallying cry of all Pro-Bergers. He failed. He's worthless. Fire him.

Wht did he expect? What was the point of bringing him in?

It's clear from the Raw rating and the Backlash buyrate, that there was some interest in seeing Goldberg wrestle - but very little in paying to see him wrestle... The next Raw rating should be interesting... If it's up (see, higher than avg) that either means that (a)they liked the Austin as GM schtick or (b) they liked Goldberg wrestling...

If you want to go by TV ratings until they become consistant, make Sable SD! champ.

I'm just saying that there was interest in either seeing Goldberg as champ or Austin as GM - which would explain the unusual rating. Also, historically, May has been the highest rated sweeps month for the WWE often putting up unusually high ratings... By no means am I saying that Goldberg should be pushed or even with the WWE... Just trying to put things in perspective.

Now if Judgement Day does a higher buyrate with the Lesnar-Show and HHH-Nash matches as the main attractions, we are all in very big trouble.

It won't happen since days b4 the ppv the WWF/E had the Lame harrass people to order the ppv, they do that everytime they know that they are putting out a shitty ppv.
