Ufc 36 - any good?

I've read the report of UFC 36 and it sounds good - anybody see it?

An event where only one match was decided by decision sounds great to me!

I really didn't expect Couture to lose - gutted!

Worst UFC since 33, and personally, I think it just as bad, just for different reasons.  There were early stoppages in 4 out of the 5 main card matches.

Well despite what Tomato Can said, I thought the card was very good.  It started off badly in the first two matches with that terrible decision to stop the fight because of Sinosic's little cut and the ref stoppage of Militech's fight as he was still defending himself, just waiting for an opening.  Everything after that ranged from good - great IMO.  Both of the title fights lived up to my expectation.  If Hughes can incorporate submissions into his style, he'll be an amazing force to reckon with.  I can't get over how powerful he is.  I couldn't believe that Couture lost his match.  He looked amazing (especially for 38) and was outright dominant for the first portion.  That finish reminded me of the Militech match earlier in the night.  I figured Couture could have withstood more punishment and found a way out but Big John put an end to it.  *shrugs* that's unfortunate.  I'm forced to wonder who Barnett's next opponent will be.  Rizzo is the obvious choice but I figure they'll feed Barnett someone else first and then look for the big Rizzo vs Barnett rematch.

JB, the matches were all fairly solid, but the ref stoppages were just inexcusable in my eyes.  The Elvis one was completely ridiculous.  The Miletich one was also pretty poor.  The Mach one was a little early, but I can understand it because Hughes was making Mach look like an amateur for the whole fight (so much for #1 welterweight in the world).  The Couture fight might have bugged me the most, though.  The guy was a great champion, and I think he deserved the benefit of the doubt.  He's a trained professional, near 40 years old with 10-15 fights under his belt.  He should be given the benefit of the doubt.  There were only 25 seconds left, and he could easily have ridden it out.  He could have tapped if he wanted to.  My point is, a championship match should not end like that.

I'm new to MMA - we just got UFC TV - a weekly 1 hr show here in the UK and apart from UFC 1-3 years ago it's the first I've seen. I've been imressed thus far.

Pride 19 was the most recent MMA event I saw - loved that, epecially the Herring and Newton mathes.

I don't think the resets and ref stoppage should put the show in a lower standing.  While I agree that the stops were unwarranted in most cases, the fights themselves were pretty good - great.  When you made the comparison to UFC XXXIII, that's when I thought I would drop my two cents.  33 was a terrible show because the fights were boring, not because of referee stoppage or anything like that.  They were just boring fights with a load of judges decisions.  Nobody wants to see something like that.

I must partially disagree.  I thought Menne/Castillo and Serra/Edwards from UFC 33 were both very exciting, despite being JDs, and except for the slams, the Mach/Hughes match was just as boring.

This was the first UFC event that I had ever seen.  Well, this and the Ultimate Knockouts compilation and I really enjoyed it.  Is there anything I should know about UFC that would probably help my viewing experience?
