Guest ShamRock Report post Posted May 19, 2003 I have a hard time deciding between buying Nosferatu on DVD with the extras or without them. Are the extras any good on the second Nosferatu DVD?
Guest Bruiser Chong Report post Posted May 19, 2003 I'm assuming you're referring to the two DVD's that are pretty much alike and none of the other horrible editions there have been. Personally, I think the 2001 version would be better to get because it has a better transfer as well as an audi commentary which I hear is pretty good. I've been deciding on whether to get that version or the one put out by Kino last year as they usually do great work with their stuff and get the best transfers. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted May 19, 2003 If there's a choice, you should always go after the loaded version.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted May 19, 2003 If you mean the choice between Image's release and Kino's, I'd go with Kino's. I love their Metropolis restoration to death, and they're pretty well-known for their presentations anyway, plus it has the excerpts from other Murnau films. Personally, I'm saving up for Kino's German Horror Classics box-set.
Guest Bruiser Chong Report post Posted May 19, 2003 *high fives evenflow* That's the exact set that caught my eye when I was browsing through their site. I thought I was the only one on the board interested in such odd films. I knew about you and Metropolis, but didn't figure that about the other stuff. I tried to get Waxworks off of eBay a few weeks ago, but bidding got too step for me, so I'll just be holding off and possibly going for this set as well, although I really need to lay off spending so much on all these DVD's. I've got my eye on a couple of other Kino releases, but they'll have to wait.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted May 19, 2003 Waxworks is the only film from that set that I'm unfamiliar with. What exactly is it supposed to be about? Is it just a... I'm blanking on the term, but just those three short stories presented separately, or do they all interlock?
Guest Bruiser Chong Report post Posted May 19, 2003 I actually haven't seen it (just seems like the sort of movie I'd like), but from what I can tell, it's basically three short films within one movie. A writer in the movie creates these three stories that are told within the movie. On a somewhat related note, I checked eBay and saw the set selling for $52 and was set to bid, but as the norm with many items I want, I forgot about it and came back to see that the auction had ended at that price. Oh well, like I said, I need to quit spending anyway, so perhaps that's best.
