Ali G

I'm from the UK, and over here Ali G has been around for years. They just started showing his latest tv show, where he is in america, on tv over here. Anyway, i was wondering what people think of Ali G, specifically people who live in america where i believe his show has just been shown. I'm a big fan of Ali and his other characters, but i always thought the humour might be hard to understand in america for various reasons, like the way he talks and the slang he uses. So what are your thoughts on him and his other characters like Borat?

I guess I don't "get" it, because the way he talks makes me want to strangle him.

Honestly. He could be the funniest man alive, but I hate the fucking accent / slang of his so goddamn much I instantly tune out whatever it is he's saying.

I'm fairly wordly, I guess, so I can understand the way he talks fine. I've been an Ali G fan for a while, I've got his dvds and a good deal of his UK tv show on the computer... the problem is that he's too big over there, and it kind of defeats who he is. I like what he's doing in America now, cause nobody knows him. But now that's he's reached the point of being a huge celebrity with ten girls hanging off of him and doing videos and crap... kind of overshadows the idiotic loser that I think is what truly makes him funny.

His show in America is hilarious. I knew he had UK stuff before, I just had never seen the stuff before.

As an American, I find his show to be hit or miss....the parts of it that are good have me on the floor laughing...

I dislike the accent too...

Love the show. He can bit irritating, but I certainly don't hate him. Accent doesn't bother me one bit.

All I've seen is Ali G Indahouse and that was that funny as hell.

I've only seen bits and pieces of him. I find him very annoying and unfunny.

The show is funny, but I think he's done everything he can with the character, some of the jokes on the American show have been sone before. The movie was very hit and miss, but still a lot better than most recent comedys.

What do you think of Borat? I think he is better than Ali. I also like the new character too...

He rocks. We've been getting his shows in Australia for ages, and he's so fuckin' funny. It's hard to go past his interview with Posh and Becks and the interview with the FBI gun control dude!!! Hilarious

I think his accent and the slang he uses hilarious. It amazes me that someone that is a genius in real life can perfect playing dumbass so well.

Actually if I remember correctly, the third character (Bruno, but he had a different name before) was the first character he did. I also think Borat is the funniest of the three.

Ali G. is awesome. I don't have a problem with his accent (that's an annoying pet peeve for someone to even have...we ALL have accents) and I don't have a problem with his slang. For the most part he uses slang we all use and when he doesn't you can generally pick up what it means from the context of the conversation or the way he used it. So no cultural barriers for me.

I like Ali G the best and Borat is kind've low on my list but still funny. The "genius" character is Bruno. I love how he (and the rest of his characters) comes off as an unassuming uninformed idiot, but he's VERY adept at exposing the flaws in others such as ignorance, intolerance and homophobia. Great, great stuff if you're actually bright enough to "get it."
