Simple Question

Besides the video tape which is barely audible of himself sitting somewhere and saying "the mission was a success" or whatever - has the government officially released it's position as to how we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Bin Ladin was behind 911?

It depends how you mean "officially released."

 

Has the government published "The Big Book of Bin Laden's Guilt: 911 Reasons Why Usama Sucks?" No. Is some of the evidence out there if you know where to look? Yes. The problem is, a lot of the information gathered is sensitive and can't be released to the public domain.

I haven't seen any 100% conclusive evidence since 9/11... but then again I can't think of a more likely candidate either! In fact as it was all going down, I was one of the few people in my office who'd heard of OBL and pegged him as the guy behind it at the time.

 

So yeah. It was him.

I'm not convinced it was Osama bin Ladin. I'm not suggesting it was Castro or Bush Sr. like some conspiracy buffs might, I'm just saying I've yet to be totally convinced and was hoping I'd missed something. DT just confirmed that I hadn't blinked and missed a Kenneth Starr-like publication presenting the case for the war on terrorism.

Al Qaeda doesn't usually come out a brag about there work like other terrorist groups tend to do.But Binalshib (sp) gave an interview bragging about the attacks, and saying he was going to be the 20th hijacker but wasn't allowed in the country.Mohammed that hairy guy may of given an interview as well but I'm not certain.

I heard the main piece of evidence was that there was a clear money trail from Al Quida networks to the bank accounts of the hijackers and that everything else was fill in the blanks.

The Government's need to keep things back so they can operate efficiently without their wings getting clipped is so damning to them. People demand the government protect us, but then get bitchy when the government has to keep things to themselves in order to handle things and not give themselves away to enemies.

Neither. A perfect system is impossible. Sometimes in this world you have to keep things to yourself for the betterment and safety of others. Giving away your hand, especially in a situation where it could alert hostile forces that you can head them off and capture them, cannot be done to properly ensure the safety of the people. But those very same people get pissed off that you don't tell them, completely forgetting than their not knowing meant the terrorists that didn't kill them because they were captured didn't know either.

 

It's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" kind of public relations situation.

There a video where Bin Laden talked about the bombing after it had happened - how the hijackers had never met each other before, that they didn't know what they were going to have to do until an hour before, etc.

they point the finger to themselves. Bin Ladin and most of his people either admitted it via tape. Or admitted it via capture. This one is rather open and shut. The real question should be, can it be possible to catch Bin Ladin? It is been hard for the last 5 years. He knows how to blend with the crowd. Now that he is losing friends, it might be even more possible. But time will tell.

if bin laden didn't do it, he'd have nothing to lose & everything to gain by taking credit for the attacks. just taking his word on it isn't very prudent.
