Guest ViciousFish Report post Posted May 21, 2003 I can't remember where I read it but what someone said was something along the lines of the WWE is like a college girl getting a compliment for having a nice sweater so she wears it the next weekend, except the WWE would wear it for 3 years. They got a bit of a 'Hey that was pretty good' when Mr. America first came along because it was funny for 5 minutes, so now they're dragging it out as long as possible. Guest Space_Cowboy Report post Posted May 21, 2003 Well, Smackdown looks like a pile of crap, but that's the WWE's standard show these days. Vince needs to be dragged off to an insane asylum, and soon.

Guest Y2DAYDAY Report post Posted May 21, 2003 Wait and see. Once Kurt Angle comes back, the Mr. American stuff will get cut back. They are just filling time until Kurt comes back so they can make Lesnar vs Angle the top program on Smackdown. Don't really see where they are going with the Mr. America angle. Guess they will have to do a stipulation match where if Mr. America beats someone, Hulk Hogan is reinstated but if Mr. America loses, he is done with WWE. Don't even see who Hogan can work with at this point except maybe the FBI. Hogan will be gone again by Summerslam and will be back in January for the Mania run. Guest Coffey Report post Posted May 21, 2003 I wish the spoilers were more descriptive. So, we got Cena going over Spanky clean with his finisher? Wasn't this supposed to be a new feud? So, is this the end of that feud? While reading that, it just seemed like Mr. McMahon was in almost every single segment. Yeah, that sounds about right. Well, if Steph is topless in her scenes it will be watchable.

Guest nikowwf Report post Posted May 21, 2003 The meltzer spoilers said the tag match was a long good match, the matt/benoit match was good, and the rey match was good too. why is everyone so down on the show? hell, all the mr. america crap is on the end too, so its a hell of a 90 minute show from where im sitting. niko
Guest Spaceman Spiff Report post Posted May 21, 2003 The Mr. America crap is all throughout the show, not just at the end. And why are we down on the show? Maybe the fact that the focus of the show isn't on the champ. The focus is on the feud between the 50 year-old owner and the pushing-50 year-old wrestler, a feud which is dominating the air time (6 or 7 segments, the same as the number of actual matches). And that Sean O'Haire, a "new" guy on which they ran a bunch of promos to hype up, is playing 4th fiddle behind the 50 year-old owner, the pushing-50 year-old wrestler, and a 1-legged wrestler. And that the Torrie/Sable angle continues trudging on. None of that stuff bothers you?
Guest bravesfan Report post Posted May 21, 2003 From the Observer... Dark/Velocity matches: Murray Harper (?) and Horshue beat Damien Denucci (?) and David Flair. Denucci was pinned after a power slam. Crowd liked David Flair. Just think if the right Flair had shown up! They began showing the Velocity graphics. Jamie Noble w/Nidia beat Carly Colon. Good match. Crowd LOVED it when Nidia knocked Noble's opponent down outside the ring. Noble is very good and his opponent showed some promise. Noble won with his double underhook into a powerbomb thing, I know it has a proper name, but my befuddled and tired mind can't remember it. Feel free to fill in the proper name. Velocity opening TV sequence/pyro. Rikishi beat Phil Brown. Total squash under 2 minutes. Stinkface. 2nd rope buttdrop. Rikishi dances. Crowd liked Rikishi. I liked seeing Rikishi on Velocity. Josh and the Cat came out to a mild pop. Undertaker video was shown. Cat cut a promo and danced. The crowd went mild. Bill Demott beat Brad Hunter. Demott told the following lame joke before the match. "Who are the 3 most famous guys who got shot in the head? Answer: Lincoln, Kennedy and the guy who sat in front of Pee Wee Herman in the theater!" Crowd groaned appropriately at that Hugh Morrus joke. Hunter was so appalled he attacked Demott immeadiately. This match was about as good as Bill's joke. Funaki beat Kanyon. Quite a decent match. Velocity Main Event: A-Train vs. Rhyno. I was happy to see A-Train... on Velocity. Longish match with an extended bearhug segment. Crowd got into Rhyno's comeback. Rhyno finally GOARed Albert out of the ring. Albert was counted out. Yes, a count out finish for a main event. Way to help those sagging ratings. WWEEEEEEEE~! Smackdown: After WWE logo we see Judgement Day recap of Hogan/Piper, highlighting Tenacious Z keeping Vince from interfering. Wow, I really wish I dumped $35 on that show on Sunday! Cut to a "live" shot of a limo arriving. Vince storms out of the limo looking pissed and immeadiately storms to the entrance ramp. He cuts a short promo saying he's pissed off at all the mistakes happening here lately, (Mr. America, yadda yadda). He says Steph is still the Smackdown GM, but that HE is going to run things tonight. I was appalled at this. Smackdown has a new opening video and music theme now. The new theme is kind of a rap with heavyish guitars in the background. My guess is this is a WWE music creation and not a real song, but frankly I would be the last to know if it's a real song. New theme seemed good enough. I was certainly sick of Marilyn Manson or whatever that other dreck was they had opening the show. Opening match: WWE Tag titles: Eddie and Tajiri vs Team Angle. Eddy was over. Finish was Eddie and Tajiri winning by DQ. Tajiri was being pinned and Eddie ran into the ring and chaired the referee in the back. He then threw the chair to Charlie Haas who the ref saw with the chair and DQed. Silly finish aside (and the crowd loved it), this was a great, long match until end. Eddie was awesome here. This was the best match on Smackdown in a while, if not up to the awesome stuff from last Fall. Good start to the show. More clips of Tenacious Z/Piper/Hogan. Steph talks to Vince in the back and says nothing. She doesn't want Vince to lose his control. Vince vows to be totally out of control by the end of the night. yippee. They play a Torrie video. Brock will fight a member of the FBI tonight in a non-title match. Egads, another Vince promo. No wonder his first one was so short. As unthrilled as I am to see Vince again, his video with him laughing manically at the camera cracked me up. He is pissed at Piper. He demands Piper come out and apologize. Piper comes out and reluctantly apologized. Vince slaps Piper. Piper advises Vince to not do that again. Blah Blah Blah. They make a match with Sean OHaire taking on Hogan tonight. If O'Haire loses than Piper gets to hear the 2 magic words, "YOU'RE FIRED!" There's your main event. Ugh. A new KURT ANGLE~! video promo airs voiced by the man himself. It ends with the message that Kurt will return in 2 weeks. As great as that sounds, I hope his neck is really ready... Cena beat Spanky in a total squash. Spanky should NEVER be in the ring with someone as big as Cena as the crowd really didn't buy Spanky at all. At least they didn't introduce him as "Brian Kendrick". Cena did rap before the match and won with the F-U. Still shot recap of Stretcher match. FBI discusses who will wrestle Brock tonight. Very UNfunny segment. A Rey Mysterio - 619 DVD is plugged. A funny Mattitude promo airs next (which I am sure won't air) where they run down Greensboro. Good stuff here. Rey comes out to commentate for the next match. Benoit beat Matt Hardy with the crossface. Crowd got into Benoit bigtime at the end but was dead for the rest of the match. Pretty good match. Rey kept Crash and Shannon from interfering at the end. Matt is so outraged at Rey he says that Rey can have a cruiserweight title shot anytime he wants, IF he can beat Crash and Shanoon, RIGHT NOW! And, it's on... Rey beat Shannon and Crash. This was very good and Rey is amazing live. Rey appeared to get a legit leg injury at the end because things got very sloppy at the end. Rey botched a West Coast Pop and pinned Shannon (with Rey holding his hand on the ropes). This pinfall appeared to count, but then Crash attacked Rey and then got pinned by Rey. So, either Rey had to pin both men to win, OR the first pinfall didn't count OR they decided to edit out the first pinfall and do another finish. In any event the finish was very confusing live. Match was good and longer than the Matt Hardy/Benoit match, assuming it isn't edited. The ref and a trainer carried Rey to the back. Again I think he had a legit injury, but I guess it could have been great selling. No sign of the dreaded X sign from the ref though. Anyway, Matt gave both Crash and Shannon the Twist of Fate after the match. Tenacious Z (Zack) and Steph have a sit down interview. Words can't describe how horrible Steph was here. She was totally unconvincing and kept flubbing her lines and having awkward pauses as she tried to remember what she was supposed to ask. You would think it was HER first interview on national TV instead of poor Zack's. I wouldn't be surprised if they retaped this, that's how bad she was. Anyway, they go into Zack's history with his leg, his family, etc. He says he almost died of cancer and that his dream is to train with Mr. America and become a WWE wrestler. Next they aired a promo for the newest diva DVD featuring Raw performer Stacy. Great split WWEEEEEEEE~! Vince confronts Mr America backstage. He demands that Hogan agree to a stipulation to tonight's match. If Hogan loses he takes a lie detector test next week. (Why not make him agree to take off the mask this week you idiots?) Hogan refuses. Vince says if Hogan refuses he will make sure his buddy Zack, will NEVER wrestle here or anywhere. Hogan reluctantly accepts. The highlight of this was Vince telling Mr America that he's not really Vince McMahon, he's WILE. E. COYOTE! Brock vs FBI. After the FBI guys consult, they all attack Lesnar at once. Then the match becomes Brock vs. Johnny Stamboli. Match was fun when it was Brock showing his scary strength throwing Stamboli around like he weighed 90 lbs. When Stamboli was in control (which he was a lot) this was bad. Match ended in a DQ when FBI ran in when Brock was about to F5 Johnny. What a weak finish. FBI then proceeded to triple team Brock. Just when Nunzio was about to level Brock with a chair, the Undertaker returned and cleaned house. I will add that Nunzio took a SICK bump over the top rope and landing flat on his back on the floor. This was scary. Taker and Brock cleaned house and posed to a pretty deafening pop. Sable comes out to a decent pop. She first plugs the newest ( I beilieve it was RAW) magazine with her on the cover. Then she stands on the table in front of Taz, whining about the bikini contest. She then squats on the table with her legs spread in front of Taz talking about how she's hot and sexy. She then pours water on herself and says that Taz's decision was "premature", but then he's "premature" all the time. Har Har. She then dumps some water on Taz. Taz gets up and his pissed. Not as pissed as me. Sable leaves. This segment was painful death. I can't believe any of the loons on creative think this junk will "turn the company around". Vince gives O'Haire and Piper a pep talk, emphasising the stips for the main event. Hogan (with Zack) vs O'Haire was as bad as you would think. Hogan surprised me by taking a bump on a bodyslam. Wow, what a wrestling machine he is. Lots of restholds. Hogan finally hulked up and hit the leg drop. Piper pulled the ref out of counting position as he was counting down O'Haire's shoulders, and then slipped out of the ring and hid below the apron. This was so well done, I began cackling. Vince's music then played and he came out with a lot of cops and ordered that Zack be arrested for trespassing (he had no right to be at Smackdown) and for assaulting Vince on Sunday. The cops complied. Vince confiscated Zack's cane calling it a "weapon". Mr America was appalled and left the ring to argue with the cops. Piper urged the ref to begin counting Hogan out. Vince stupidly informed Hogan at 7 that he was being counted out. Hogan (even more) stupidly, waited until after 9 to try to get back in the ring. O'Haire won by counout. Mr. America has to do the lie detector next week. Piper gave Hogan a weak chairshot. Show ends with Vince, Piper, and Sean celebrating, and with Vince doing a ridiculous limp up and down the ring with Zack's cane. (good taste Vince). After the show, Sean drags Hogan to the ring. Hogan gives Sean and Piper the double noggin knocker and then unmasks to pose for the crowd. Too bad Vince was backstage and didn't see this. The End. Hogan got a loud pop coming out, but not as loud as Brock and Taker got together, which surprised me. I even saw some people (not a lot, but some) leaving at the beginning of his match. Anyway, the first hour of the show contains 3 good matches but man that 2nd hour is BAD. And more non-finishes tonight. This show really needs Heyman back badly
Guest Cerebus Report post Posted May 21, 2003 Does anyone agree that the first week you saw Hogan come out to "Real American" did that hilarious segment with Piper and wave the American flag you marked out? Now that it has consumed SD and expanded to TZ's bizzaro push it annoys me that Hogan can use his ability to make me laugh so much for such evil purposes. *sigh*

In Australia we only get RAW and can't even get the PPV's anymore (even though we only did pay about $13 US for them when we did have them) and FINALLY Smackdown has sunk to RAW's level. MWUHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA It's a pitty Raw didn't climb to Smackdown's level to even things out. Oh well. I still don't have to watch Hogan. Guest Gendo Report post Posted May 21, 2003 Sure, and Rey Misterio jr. will win the WWE world title. Of course he will, he is gonna win it from The Big Show, that is of they hotshot it onto angle who drops it to weeks later to The Big Show, giving Rey the new nickname of El Gigante Killah because as we all know slightly mirroring WCW = Ratings and Longetivity. This will then set up the highly anticipated Mask Vs. Mask fued between Rey and Mr. America in a Mask on a Pole match in which in a swerve because SEX SELLS the mask is actually one cup from Stephanies Bra with a smiley face painted on it . Mr. America Wins so that there can be one more title run for the Americanmaniacs.

Well maybe they can feud with taker, but they just don't seem like they pose a credible threat to me. They should be pushing Cena, O'Haire and Matt as the top tier heels instead of Stamboli and Chuck who were pretty much relegated to Heat and Velocity before the FBI. No you're not which is why I was wondering why didn't they just have Brock beat Stamboli clean 1-2-3 but, instead they booked Brock to win by DQ. Why? To protect Stamboli? Whatever.
