Guest JangoFett4Hire Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 MARLBORO -- Another Jesse Ventura perhaps? A professional wrestler whose nickname is "The Skunk" plans to announce his candidacy for mayor of the city of Marlboro. The MetroWest Daily News says Christopher Antal will discuss his political aspirations tomorrow night, while taping his cable access show "Pro Wrestling Monthly." Antal co-hosts the show with "Jim the Wrestling Goon." Antal says people will vote for him because they're fed up with "legitimate" politicians. A more conventional candidate is Marlboro City Council President and business owner Dennis Hunt, who's expected to announce his candidacy for mayor today. Hunt says he has the right experience to manage City Hall. Incumbent mayor William Mauro is stepping down after three terms.

Guest Youth N Asia Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 That's hardly another Jesse Ventura. I doubt the 20 people that go to the indies he's in even know who he is.
Guest Kingpk Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 Hey, he'll probably have the support of "Jim the Wrestling Goon", so don't count him out. (Yes, I know what Jim sounds like. He used to do a wrestling recap bit on the Big Show on WEEI. The words "shrill", "annoying", and "moronic" will do to describe him)
Guest William E Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 As long as the guy running against him is a heel, he should have no problem winning.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 Bob Backlund ran unsuccesfully for U.S. Representatve.
Guest Midnight Express83 Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 Backlund ran for Litchfield County Rep for the State of Connecticut, and loss BIG TIME. The only wrestler to win an election that I can think of is Ventura.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 You can say that again! You can say that again! You can say that again!
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 Ventura won because of legislation that allowed people to register at the ballots instead of days and days beforehand. There was a huge number of new voters that day. California received a proposal for the same thing last year and we shot it down. So much scandal has surrounded the past few elections that we don't want to risk it.
Guest alkeiper Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Backlund ran against a fairly entrenched incumbant. He would've lost regardless of his wrestling career.
Guest Midnight Express83 Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Vince McMahon for Mayor of Greenwich. Lets see if he can take the richest town in America and flush it down the toilet like he is doing to the WWEEEE.
Guest Vyce Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Backlund lost? I guess the "crazy old man" gimmick didn't go over well with the voters.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 I hope the guys wins it. Just so I can go to Marlboro, pretty much a few minutes away from my house, and be like "I WANT TO CHALLENGE 'THE SKUNK' IN A MARLBORO STREET FIGHT FOR THE MAYOR TITLE!"
Guest ShooterJay Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 I met Backlund when he was running for Congress at a wrestling camp. While he wasn't a crazy old man, he did live the gimmick to a certain extent- ie "I won't give you an autograph unless you can name all of the US presidents." It's also funny because I lived in Marlboro for a year or so when I was really young. And, I'm fairly sure this Skunk guy at one point wrestled for the promotion I used to tape shows for.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 are we not counting the Japanese wrestlers that won policitical thingies?
