Resident Evil the movie....

Recommended Posts

Guest NoCalMike

What do everyone here think of this movie? First time I saw it, I thought it was decent, and now with repeat viewings I think I would rate it a bit higher than that. I like how the ending sets up PERFECTLY for a sequel, and since there is a sequel in the works, we will see how it turns out.

I liked it. Most people hate it I think...but I dug it.

I'm watching it right now on HBO...which I assume you are too...or this is just a weird coincidence.

Resi Evil and Mortal Kombat are the only videogame movies I liked. I think they both capture the spirit of the games well. I've seen Mortal Kombat a bunch of times. Pity the sequel was astonishingly bad.

I was a little disappointed in Resi Evil in the zombie dog sequence. It could've been done a lot better I thought. But big points for the evil computer girl with the English accent. And I'm a Michelle Rodriguez mark.

I liked it as well. I thought it was a pretty good movie, especially when one considers it has to deal with (a) the zombie genre, and (b) the video game genre. That was two strikes against it--at least to the general public--but the movie didn't let that stop it. Not the greatest movie ever, but it doesn't really insult you intelligence.

I thought that Michelle Rodriguez did a great job in the film.

I love that movie!!! I pretty much am a sucker for all/most zombie flicks. Her name excapes me right now, but I also think the woman who plays the lead in that movie is a very good actress.

You're all stupid for liking it!

Paul Anderson is the freakin' worst director ever. I hope the no talent fuck dies, or quits, either way is good.

Milla Jovovich.

She also seems to have a nice sense of humor. I read that, during her commentary on the Resident Evil DVD, she yells out "Twat Shot" during one of the scenes (don't know which one).

Funny you should bring her up. I didn't see the film in the theater, but about 1-2 months ago I saw it on Cinemax, right after The Fifth Element. Must have been "Milla Jovovich Double-Feature Night".

I liked it better the second time I watched it.

From the previews, I thought it looked pretty good and then I rented it and I was disappointed. But then it came on HBO and I watched again and liked it better. Go figure.

Ok now I'm buying the dvd. That's all there is too it. "Twat Shot" hahahaha......She did show her "twat" in the hospital scene where she just has like two pieces of paper strapped on her.

You're on crack. Resident Evil and Event Horizon were both great sci-fi flicks!

I like the gore, but it's too consciously hip, like Tank Girl, or Natural Born Killers... pretty good though.

When it comes to certain things, perhaps...

but regardless I just didn't like the movie, as was stated above the "consciously hip" factor annoys me to no end.

Fun movies, but that's about it. Nothing astonishing, nothing really memorable, but does do good on the "shut up and stop complaining" entertainment meter.

i loved the ebgining but once you got into the meat and potatoes of it, it lost its appeal to me. Still a fun movie. But the very begining was awesomely shot, IMO.

oh and Event Horizon was great

I thought I was gonna hate hit. I don't have any attachment to the Res Evil games, so any changes they made I either didn't notice, or didn't care.

I liked it too by the way, but they could've done alot more than they did with the Zombie employees.

Was a decent enough movie, but I didn't like what happened to the black guy. He was my fav. character...

Event Horizon did indeed rule all.

And I liked Res. Evil. Most people didn't (Tim C. over on 411mania, for example) but I saw nothing wrong with it.

I was not a fan of this movie at all, for a variety of reasons:

1. I just can't stand Milla Jovavich. 5th Element was the only movie that I ever liked her performance in (The Messenger almost had me throwing things at the screen). Maybe it's a personal thing, I dunno, but I just don't buy her acting at all.

2. Why make the bizarre plot changes? Just follow the general plot of the first game, bingo, good story done easily. I don't know why they had to change it into a bunch of supersoldiers battling against an intelligent-but-evil computer. (And did anyone else feel like the computer was basically Hal from 2001, but with a girl's voice?)

3. They used computer graphics for their zombie gore effects, which looked lame and fake as all hell. What, was Tom Savini busy washing his hair or something?

4. Where were all the other creatures? We get a bunch of zombies and one really shitty-looking Licker and that's it? Yawn.

So, in conclusion: uh, no.

WHAT??

Event Horizon was utter shit. A blight upon the career of Sam Neill.

You want a better Sam Neill genre flick, go see "At the Mouth of Madness". Wonderfully Lovecraftian.

I Love RE.

Im not a RE game player, and maybe thats why I like the movie so much.

But the action was good, the FX was good too. The interaction between Michelle Rodriguez (I love the way you guys up there pronounce her name :) ) and Milla was really good.

I got the movie on DVD and now, I think im gonna play it with comments ON. Thanx MD2020

I think you're a little rough on Milla there, Jingus (Literally "little", not like too rough or something). However, I COMPLETELY agree with everything else. Reading this thread, I thought no one would denounce the movie since it seems most here were satisfied with it. Now, if I may add:

When I think of the essence, the fiber, of Resident Evil, I always remember the mansion in the original game. It wasn't merely the fact that it was a mansion that sealed it, but there's something just fundamentally scary about being lost in dwindling numbers in a big scary house filled with unknown creatures around every corner. Unfortunately, what Resident Evil The Movie turned it into was an offspring of the Living Dead movies, which although they were awesome in their own right, RE had the full potential to surpass. And it didn't even meet the Living Dead standard.

I agree with Jingus that the movie could've been eons better had they stuck with the original story. I seriously doubt anyone would've truly been upset that they may have gone through this story already when they played the game. It could've been like a remake. Remakes happen. It could've been a remake with far better acting, effects, gore, sound, the works. When I first heard the movie was in production, I started putting my dreamteam cast together to revive the roles of the fab four. Imagine something along these lines (Keep in mind the year the movie was released): Kiefer Sutherland as Wesker; Denise Richards or Milla Jovovich as Jill; George Mason(character-name from 24) or Chi McBride(if they ignored racial lines) as Barry; and Ben Affleck or David Boreanaz as the main dude whose name I forget at the moment. Shit, I like it more already. Use more tangible-looking blood and guts, juicy shots of ravaged corpses, spine-evident directing, creepy tho simple music to drive you nuts around every corner, making one zombie seem diesel enough to get the job done on his own as opposed to needing MILLIONS to chase everyone for 15 minutes at a time in order to kill ONE guy, and limit the ammo more for God's sake to make clever hand combat necessary as well as terrifying to imagine doing so without a gun or extensive martial arts background. And that little fuckin' computer girl pissed me off! Not her character necessarily, but her role in the film. There was nothing AT ALL scary about her. She commanded some shitty things to happen to the protagonists, but she herself was NOT scary. She did not come anywhere close to scaring me. And if the heel isn't dead-scary in a Resident Evil story, then what the hell is the point? To annoy you with obstacles? Bullshit! Bring back Tyrant instead! You see what I mean?

I did like ONE thing about the movie. I appreciate how they elaborated on how zombies actually work, explaining for us how it could actually happen. The whole regenerating cells that produce just enough low power for our brains to process the simplest of natural instincts: survival/eating. Great sense, and I loved that. But the movie was garbage. Any producer with the budget could've thrown that movie together, because there was nothing special about it. So, there's a nice segue into the sequel. I admit that was "okay". But if the first movie doesn't draw enough asses to their seats to get the same viewers to pay another 10$ each for it's successor, then who cares? I'm not "out to get" this movie or anything. I just would have REALLY preferred that they stuck with the original story and even remade it in some way. It would've been a lot creepier, a lot scarier, and just fuckin' old school. And deep down inside, everyone has a soft spot for old school. Why else would you make a movie out of a video game? In that case, just make another House On Haunted Hill or some crap. Exploiting the RE name is fuckin' shameful, and I call the bastards on it.

Well, I've heard everything from the movie isn't even supposed to be linked to the videogame "RE Universe" to that the movie was supposed to act as another arc from the game's storylines. Ie: it's supposed to be taking place before RE1.

That said, when does a movie port like this ever follow the original storyline? X-Men didn't. Spider-man didn't. Why should RE?

It's "IN the Mouth of Madness." And, yes, Sam kicks ass in that too.

I'm just saying that I liked the original storyline better than what they made up for the movie, for one thing. And X-Men and Spiderman did follow their source material a lot closer than RE did. Especially Spidey, since just about the only changes they made were the organic webshooters and leaving out Gwen Stacey.

If every movie in the world could have naked Milla and/or Milla with a tight red dress and a big fucking gun, I would watch every movie in the world.

The movie itself, it was OK. Paul Anderson is a terrible, horrible , awful director. One of the worst working today. Every movie he has made turns to shit except this one. It's not a great movie and if Milla wasn't in it I don't know how much I would enjoy it, but this is FAR AND AWAY Anderson's best movie. Could've been better with a half ass competent director though and the fact that I have to watch it and know that they fucktard Anderson gets to put parts of his body inside my Milla makes me want to kill. I called her first dammit.

I've seen it three times so it's obviously enjoyable to me.

The ending was fantastic. The movie itself really wasn't what I expected but the ending was. The ending was awesome. As soon as the movie ended I wanted to see part 2. I wanted to see half naked Milla alone in a big empty world of zombies with nothing but a shotgun. That makes me scorch my shorts.

I'm still looking forward to the sequel, even more so now because Anderson isn't directing it and Milla will be back.

I don't remember her screaming out twat shot in the commentary but I do remember her going on and on about if the fans make this the #1 selling DVD that she'd get breast implants.
