New Today in History up

Recommended Posts

You know, before I clicked on the link, I tried thinking of what else occured on this day and the only thing I could come up with (and I wasn't even sure if it was the correct date) was Slamboree 93.

I usually don't care enough to read PPV reviews seeing as there are few shows I haven't seen and thus already have my own opinion of how it was, but I thought your recap was well done. I've never seen the PPV broadcast in its entirety but have owened the 2-hour commercial tape since 1995.

I had just started watching WCW about a month or so before Slamboree 93 and was hooked immediately when I realized that the Bulldog, who was my favorite wrestler before he was let go from the WWF several months prior, was getting a world title shot. Being that they had so many former WWF stars like Orndorff, Rude, Anderson, Steamboat, and Bulldog - and that Flair had just made his return from the WWF with his sights set on regaining the world title - it didn't take long before I had WCW Saturday Night, WCW Worldwide, and WCW Main Event added into my weekly viewing schedule.

I vividly remember Bulldog interrupting Vader's public workout the night before the PPV as well as the Hollywood Blondes' title victory (which, I believe was the first WCW TV show I ever saw) and the controversial Rude / Rhodes US title bout in which the championship was held up afterwards.

A lot of people talk crap about the Bill Watts era of WCW and how the attendance was in the crapper until Hogan showed up. While it might be true that WCW was not making tons of money during this time, the in-ring product was equal to if not better than that of the WWF.

Good work.
