Guest Galactic Gigolo Report post Posted May 23, 2003 I was on my sister labtop last night (had XP), and hooked my cable modem up to it and found it going soooo much faster than my computer does. It's a Compaq that's about two years old, and I'm getting to the point where I fucking hate it. The memory is at 191 according to when I right click-properties- on My Computer, but there are times when despite having Program Manager running everytime I start up to ensure useless junk doesn't run that Kazaa Lite, Windows Media, AIM, and an IE window will use the memory up. Bull fucking shit. Questions: 1) Nerd kid down the street told me I need EIDE or IDE (same thing, he said) hardrive space, as I'd like to update my puny 15 to around 40 or 50. 2) How do I figure out what kind of memory I need? And how much should I probably get, and how much does this usually run? 3) After seeing XP, and considering that I don't have multiple users on my computer, nor do I use any programs that will not work on XP, I'm really tempted to make the switch over to XP. My computer came with Windows 98, and many people (though, dumbasses) have told me that upgrading a system built for 98 to 2000 or XP will end up causing you problems in th long run. Is this true? Anything that should be replaced if it is? 4) My CD burner my father decided to bought for me is a piece of shit that never worked from day one. I'm sick and tired of it sitting on my computer, so I want to get a new one. Now, with the new hardrive and memory, I'm not sure if I'll have another slot available to add a CD Burner. Any reconmendation on a good USB one? I don't need lightning quick, but at the same time I don't want to wait more than 10, 15 minutes for a CD to burn. 5) While I'm at it, I might add an internal DVD player. Any idea how much these things run now?

Then you can save a spot for the burner. And like was stated above, get the DVD CD Burner

You should be fine. 4) Pricewatch is your best friend. 5) See 4. You should be able to get a CD burner/DVD-ROM combo drive for a good price.
