Hiroyoshi Tenzan to retire...

After his preliminary skirmish loss to Takayama yesterday, Tenzan was furious and went on a verbal rampage. Despite hitting Takayama with the TTD, Tenzan wasn't able to finish him off, and Tenzan's old T2000 compadre, AKIRA, was pinned by the Double Champion. Because Chono is injured, Nakanishi is over at the LA Dojo (explaining his absence) until 6/10, and Nagata is only doing "spot participation" on the tour due to his advance into NOAH, Tenzan named himself as temporary New Japan ace, and promised to grasp the belt from the foreign enemy currently holding it. Tenzan's big claim, which was perhaps recklessly blurted out, was that if he doesn't capture the IWGP Heavyweight Title from Takayama on 6/10, he will retire from pro wrestling.

That's all for the angle. Japanese wrestlers constantly say things like this. Tenzan is going nowhere.

I am aware of this however I'm astonished they'd give away the outcome of the match like that. Obviously Tenzan is an important and influencial player within New Japan and any fan with half a brain could conclude that due to this fact Tenzan will become the IWGP Champion.

Maybe it is me, however it eliminates the drama and tension I find appealing within Puro bouts.

I see where you are coming from. If this really is Tenzan getting the title, its a poor build. I think if Tenzan would've won last year's G-1, then I could see this being a culmination point in his career.

They are fucking up Tenzan's push like they did Nagata's, and he won the G-1.

While they are at it, why don't they have Tenzan do a shoot fight to fuck him over even more.

NJPW tried this exact Angle a few years ago with Hashimoto vs Ogawa and we all thought it was finally time for Hashimoto to get the big win. What is Hashimoto doing now?

I don't think Tenzan will go anywhere, but his chances of winning the IWGP Title just went up

Yeah, Tenzan definitely deserves to win it, it's just that NJ fucked up any kind of build up to the win so basically they end up with a champion who can bring the goods night in and night out, but cant draw *coughNagatacough*
