I was surprised by how much i enjoyed this drama. I liked watching the relationship between the father and son blossum slowly and there were a few "funny" moments thrown in as well.

The only part I didn't like was

when the mother gave up the rights to her son at the end, it seemed a bit far fetched to me

I'm a tad worried half the people who read the title thought I was making a Seinfeld analogy.

i saw it once a long time ago (i think when i was a freshman in high school), & then pretty much forgot about it. then i caught it on tcm last fall & it just melted me: really emotional experience. i was raised by a single parent, so it holds a special place in my heart helping me realize how hard it was for her. the restaurant scene with hoffman & streep is awesome, it's like a powder keg.

 

the last 10 or 15 minutes are completely asinine & contrived, so i like to pretend they never existed.
