Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 24, 2003 AMC has shown the missing footage on a special hosted by the wife and friends of Bruce Lee. The footage shows a new storyline with 2 other martial artist join Bruce as they fight through out the levels of the building. New enemies are shown one is a stick fighter and another is a throw base fighter and new footage of the fight with Kareem Adul Jabar with him being light sensetive. And there is an extended Nunchuku fight seen that is must see. Through out the extra footage is Bruce speaking how his "No style is style" method is better than the constricts of standard martial arts.
Guest Karnage Report post Posted May 24, 2003 Is the Warrior's Journey GOD footage different from the HKL Platinum Edition version?
Guest DVD Spree Report post Posted May 27, 2003 There was a total of 111+ minutes of fight footage shot by Bruce Lee, only 12 of which made it into the 1978 version of the film completed after his death. Of that 111-ish minutes, most of it was retakes and outtakes. The "lost/restored footage" that everyone makes reference to is the 40 minutes of distinct footage that comprises three complete fight scenes - the same three that were in the 1978 cut - versus Dan Inosanto (nunchaku/escrima duel in the Temple of the Tiger), Chi Han Jae (hapkido battle in the Temple of Gold) and Kareem Abdul Jabber (ultimate Jeet Kune Do showdown in the Temple of the Unknown). The footage also reinstates two characters, played by James Tien (who also featured in Fist of Fury/The CHinese Connection and The Big Boss) and... arse, can't remember the guy's name, but he was an unknown CHinese stuntman. ALong with Bruce's character Hai Tien, they were the only surviving members of the five-strong team to infiltrate the pagoda (the other members died during the previous, unfilmed fight scenes featuring 20 karate men and a guardian using preying mantis style. The footage is absolutely incredible, and is easily Bruce's best work ever committed to film. It is insane that so much was cut out of the 1978 version - the fights are simply the greatest exhibition of pure martial arts ever committed to celluloid. If you're at all interested in Bruce, I would not hesitate to pick it up. Get the HKL version over Warrior's Journey, and here's why. Warrior's Journey features a so-so documentary by John Little, which isn't really taht interesting if you've seen a lot of Bruce pieces. One of Little's more ambitious ideas was to take a crew to Korea and shoot the "uncompleted" portions of Game of Death that Bruce never got a chance to do, and intercut them with the restored footage. It didn't really work out that well. The 40 mins footage included here features a number of different takes to the HKL version, the lighting and picture is not graded to theatre quality, and the scoring and voice acting is just awful. The 2-disc HKL version, being a Platinum Edition of the 1978 film, includes the film itself with commentary by HKL genius Bey Logan (this commentary blows away Little's documentary by itself) - interestingly, Logan (a British-Australian who works in Hong Kong film) was the guy who discovered teh missing footage. The DVD also includes a lot of interviews with Inosanto (there's even a complete Jeet Kune Do seminar!), George Lazenby (who was slated to appear in the film), Taky Kimura (Bruce's highest-ranked student, friend, and also due to be in the film) and others. There is a broader documentary on Lee's legacy, and trailers for all his films. The footage on this version is absolutely pristine - it has been fully restored and colour-corrected, it's fully scored, and the voice acting is absolutely top notch. The only problem is, once you've heard Bey Logan do a commentary, you'll want to pick up all the other HKL discs he does commentaries for - the dude is THAT good.
