Black Scorpion Question

I know the Black Scorpion character in 1990 WCW was not supposed to be Ric Flair originally. Who was it supposed to be? For some reason I'm thinking Ultimate Warrior??

That's not quite right. They wanted the Ultimate Warrior for the role, since he was in a tag team with Sting when they both started in the business, but they couldn't get him to leave the WWF. They were then going to put the Angel of Death, who was also heavily involved with Sting when he started out, into the role. He was under contract with WCW as one of the Russian Asassins, but then they realized that nobody would know who he was. So, with nowhere else to turn Ole Anderson asked Flair to bail his ass out and take the role for a promised title reign in the coming year.

So the braintrust at WCW actually thought that the Ultimate Warrior would actually walk out on a WWF Title reign to walk into the inferior (Let's face it, it was) hickville known as WCW?

Remember... we're talking about Ole Anderson and the gang here.

Wow, never knew they were planning on Warrior for the role. That would have been just about the only worthwhile payoff anyway. Fucking pathetic they actually went about and started the storyline though without him SIGNED!! Wow, incompetance at its finest I guess you could say.

I'm pretty sure they neevr expected to get Warrior they're not that dumb. I think they wanted fans to THINK it'd be Warrior but really have be Angel of Death. Who was also not under contract when the angle started.

Well if he wasnt under contract either they were as dumb to even consider AOD. If it would have ended up being him, that would have gotten over like a fart in a church though. Angel of Death I think used to be in World Class before that and was the most bland heel of that promotion at the time.

No, they had Angel of Death under contract since like 1988, go back and check your facts. He was part of the Russian Assasins with Jack Victory, always played other masked jobbers and in fact is one of the Scorpion henchmen that come out of the spaceship at Starrcade. The Angel of Death came in to WCW right after the UWF folded and was with them pretty much up until Bischoff taking over and sweeping out most of the older jobbers. You might not have seen him on t.v. and he was taking independent bookings, but he was working with WCW all the time.

And yes, Ole seriously thought he could get Warrior to come over, because there were grumblings that McMahon was not happy with Warrior as a draw and there were contract problems, something that happened with the Warrior frequently. Ole petitioned the Turner suits to offer Warrior a big money contract (something they finally gave to Hulk Hogan at Bischoff's pleading) with the argument that this would be the guy and angle to finally put them in running with the WWF. The suits balked and apparently the rumors that Ole had heard wasn't as severe as he thought. So while there was never any negotiations with Warrior directly he was Ole's first idea for the angle, but he would have gone through with the Scorpion gimmick anyway.

I thought the Black Scorpion angle was good, hehe.....until it dragged a little, and the payoff was well...not good. Ric Flair? WOW!

Ultimate Warrior WAS approached by WCW about the idea, which has been stated by some helpful sources.

Someone actually thought RANDY SAVAGE, because his contract with WWF was running out or something, and he wasn;t happy with his direction.

Angel of Death I never heard of so, thats how important he was. (He was one of the masked men at starrcade who beat up Dick the Bruiser (i think thats the right name) & Sting after the match).
