Archiving.

Recommended Posts

FYI: I doubt the board is just going to go anywhere - just a few tossers who made a few posts then forgot it ever existed.

Regardless, I still want the archiving done soon just in case. :phaser:

Oh crusen it's gonna happen, myself and Icon are working on the finer details right now. I really wanna make this work, and keep the legacy of the old IGNWF intact. But at the same time I wanna start something new.

I'm pretty nervous about it, but I'm gonna my hardest and hope something good happens.

Someone make sure to collect all of the old retirement promos, i.e. "Wish" and Simon Flare's... and then all of the Carnie promos... etc... etc... etc...

Well, I did my piece several days ago...just awaiting word as to where we're gonna put all this stuff.

Maybe...AND THIS IS A BIG MAYBE...everyone can send it to me, and I'll put up an archive section on the website...that is if the other web people are willing to help me mark up the many, many, MANY archived matches, promos, etc. This could take up to a month or more to fully complete, so don't hold your breath, but I think it would make a cool addition to the website...

...so mull that over and chime in with your thoughts!

Space, Thugg, space. That's stuff is expensive. I can make a database for you to archive stuff in if you want. That would be a LOT easier than marking up tons and tons of shows, and a lot less cluttered.

Possibly we could even start archiving stuff from here on out. I wouldn't do everything though, just matches that people feel are important, title wins, and PPV matches. Things like on a title history would could provide a link to see the actual match for the title change, etc. Of course, meaningless matchess like the King of hearts first match, or Edwin's first match might be of some value to folks now.

Eh, rambling. Basically we can't save everything. If it is important lets save it. If it's important to a handler, they can save it to a disk.

Hmmm... guess I'd better go archive some of my old promos and stuff... and the matches that beat me...

I just need to find one night to really hunker down, and I think that'll probably be Monday or Tuesday-ish. Might want to just put off your stuff until Thursday or Friday to ensure that everyone collects every last scrap of material that they want, and then go ahead.

Damn...yeah, I'm used to having my own personally server...where I can dictate the space. I forgot that we have limited space on theswf.net...

...well, actually...I can store the files on my server (which has oodles and oodles of idle space), and we can link to them from theswf.net. A DB would be grand...what DBMS are they running on that server. I could set something up so that you can continue to work on the new site....

...and yeah, marking up all those files would be horribly painful and annoying. Depending on the DBMS, I could throw together a real quick Java or PHP script to mark them up and catalog them in the DB. Hmmmmm....

Hmmmm...I'm pretty certain I could whip something up to make archiving easier. I'll look into that.

Okey-doke, my section is archived. I have all of the shows, a bunch of promos (including the birth of Caveman Chris and the Love Rollercoaster) and even a couple of WrestleLines.

They are saves of the actual web page, easiest way for me to do it at work.

Now, what shall I do with it... :)

I'm about halfway done... I may need someone to glance over my section and help me decide "notable" promos. Some are obvious (Carnival In Toyland), but others I'm not sure if they're "notable" or not, so... yea.

I'm also saving any and all of Vlad's "Wrestlecenter Roundtables" I find. Those things are a hoot.

I say just keep 'em all, Chris. Takes up more room, but it allows our history to be fleshed out more, if we put it up for public viewing.

Crap. I've got about 1 months worth of promos, and IGN's system just went kaput. This needs to overlap to Wednesday, I'm afraid.

DONE!

12 shows and 100 promos all safely categorized and tucked away.

I've pretty much got the first round of Wilson v Carnival, as well as Evil Inc, McCheese's return, a ton of eXodus the Son, and... yea.

I'm gonna go faint now.

100 promos? I might have to go back and check mine... I don't think I had more than 20...

Yeah....me neither Mark. I think I had about 15 promos...but also, back in the day, people used to promo on the boards a lot...and then it kind of died down.

Did you get JL promos too? Cause I didn't get any JL shows or promos...were we supposed to?

I ws having a hard time deciding which promos were "notable" or not, so some wiseass said "Just get them all!" Me, being the idiot I am, did.

But Chris, I got all the promos too! I didn't want to decide what was noteworthy or not, so I just grabbed them all, and I still have only about 15 promos. Maybe your time slot was just a time when everyone and their mama's was promoing.

You mean I could have chosen a period with FIFTEEN promos?!

*faints again*

I'll list 'em all later. I've got nothing else to do.
