Road Map to Peace

The Isreal Cabinet aproved 12-7 the Road Map to Peace. PM Sharon announced Isreali occupation of the West Bank must end. A prime minister Mouhammed Abbas was set to meet with Sharon today, but reports say Arafat stepped in and the meeting will not occur. The possibility still exist that President Bush will meet Sharon and Abbas in maybe Egypt. Is this the same old same old, or might something actually happen?

IMO..As long has Arafat still holds power nothing can happen. The Isreal's willingness to leave occupied areas is a huge step. I however don't see terrorist groups like Hamas whose sole purpose is to wipe the state of Isreal off the face of the map, to suddenly stop because Isreal leaves the West Bank.

The Palestinians deserve Napalm. Truckloads and truckloads of Napalm, dumped all over their filthy heads and backs. They don't deserve their own state. I find our involvement in this disgusting: since when were we in the practice of appeasing unrepentant terrorist regimes who are just puppets for other unrepentant terrorist regimes?

Yeah, god knows they didn't have their own country in the first place.

OH WAIT.

As for Sharon's comments, they're very heartening. I wonder how much more time the left will waste denouncing him as the butcher of Lebanon or whatever else before they stop and realize he's a considerable force for peace in the area.

The REAL question is:

When the Palestinians decide to attack again --- how will Israel get blamed?

This is why I hope Sharon doesn't change his tune when a few more Israelis get blown up, because this struggle obviously isn't over just yet, and any cooperation is most likely going to have to endure a suicide attack without both sides going back to quarreling again.

Perhaps the Palestinians will be able to crack down on Hamas when they have a security force that isn't being constantly killed by Israelis in THEIR crackdowns.

As long as Arafat is alive, this is all useless.

On a side note, since there is actually no such thing as a Palestinian, I like to call it the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Agreed. This can only lead to bad things. Why set the precedent around the world that homicide bombings will get you what you want?

That's a good one. I was laughing at that for a while.

Tom's right. They don't deserve a state. I'll come just short of saying they deserve death, but frankly.....it's what a lot of them DO deserve.

I feel bad for Israel / Sharon. They're going along with this to attempt to finally end the neverending war, but it won't work in the end. Abbas is nothing but a puppet. Arafat is still in charge. Hell, there are Palestinian officials who are saying that on international television.

Arafat is nothing but a puppet. As so many people have already said, this will not work and SHOULD not work. On a more personal note, watching Prime Minister Sharon talk about the "Israeli occupation" was one of the more embarrassing moments I've witnessed in history.
