Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 27, 2003 The Padrags have flown under the radar and are know in a virtual tie for worst record in baseball. The good news is these two juggernauts meet this year. Kind of like a rematch of the 1984 World Series.
Guest kingkamala Report post Posted May 27, 2003 Yeah but the Padres are in a helluva division(One of the best in MLB IMO). The only really talented team in the AL Central are the Twins. Therefore I believe the Tigers are worse than the Padres, we'll see though when this battle of epic proportions takes place later this year.
Bored 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2003 The Padres also have the injury excuse with Phil Nevin out for the year and Trevor Hoffman out till after the All-Star break.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 27, 2003 Besides the Padres are moving next season so it's an Esstiantly an Meaningless season...
Guest MentallyNormal Report post Posted May 27, 2003 Yes I love my San Diego Teams. I try to root for them since I live close to San Diego, but what is the point now. At least they'll get a nice looking stadium next year.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted May 27, 2003 I sorta feel bad for Gary Matthews Jr. Actually, he'll probably do well for them. He wasn't doing anything for the Os, and they tried to send him down to AAA but he had to clear waivers, and San Diego was lucky to get him. Good defensive player and he can hit, he's just not showing it this year.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 27, 2003 Why did Mathews get released? He's gotta a good glove and an average bat. He's been on like 4 teams at a young age. Does he have some kind of attitude problem? I can understand Nevin's injury hurting the team, but why exactly is Hoffman's?The Padres starters have been the problem, leading the league in Walks. Hoffman might be a team leader, but even if Hoffman was healthy his chances wouldn't be the great.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted May 27, 2003 By season's end the Tigers will be the very worst, and by a good number.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted May 28, 2003 The Padres also have the injury excuse with Phil Nevin out for the year and Trevor Hoffman out till after the All-Star break. But it's not like they need him or anything -- you have to be ahead late in a game in order for your star closer to have any work...

Does he have some kind of attitude problem? It's simply that there are alot of players at his skill level. Guys like Matthews spend their careers floating around and covering teams with weeknesses/injuries, and moving on.
Guest CanadianChris Report post Posted May 28, 2003 Padres and Tigers? And one of them has to win? Dear God...that'd be like the Red Sox and Cubs meeting in the World Series. The world may end before one of these teams wins.

Guest phoenixrising Report post Posted May 28, 2003 Sure the Padres are getting a new field, but a baseball park named after a PET STORE? Unless they start nicknaming it the Dawgpound or something, then it might be cool. Something about interleague...I don't think we've ever had Yankees/Dodgers but we sure as heck get Padres/Tigers...yay. That's the only thing I hate about interleague play...you get a few good series and a lot of crappy ones.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 28, 2003 So you'd rather see the Padres/Rockies, or Padres/Brewers? Interleague play has alot of bad matchups but so does intraleague play.
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted May 28, 2003 Interleague play does have much to offer this year. We get Cardinals/Orioles, with the Orioles donning their old St. Louis Browns uniforms. We get Cardinals/Yankees, and Cardinals/Red Sox. We also have the Athletics returning to Philadelphia for the first time since they left in the 50s.

Guest CanadianChris Report post Posted May 28, 2003 And the Red Sox last WS win came against the Cubs. Well, yeah...in 1918, before all this curse stuff started. The scary thing is, there appears to be a chance that they COULD meet this year. Slim, but it's there.

Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 30, 2003 So it's named after a Pet Store. If it's a nice stadium what's the difference what the name is. I'd take Spam Park if it meant a new outdoor stadium for the Twins.

Or the Twins could go with an agressive season-tickets campaign through mass e-mails titled "h0TT ba1lg@me tiXXX click HERE"
