Another idea stolen from ESPN.com and SI.com. Technically it doesn't matter since the HOF decides for the player. But just curious what team should Clemens enter the HOF has?

Despite past problems Clemens is a Red Sox. Tied with Cy Young for most wins in franchise history, 3 Cy Youngs.

Definitely Boston, if only because those are the years in which he was at his best. Even though he was AWESOME in Toronto, he just wasn't there long enough.

Plus, I fucking hate the Yankees so anything that keeps that franchise from getting another cap in the Hall is fine and dandy with me.

Roger should go in as a Yankee since that seems to be what he wants the most.

He may have been more successful in Boston and TO but he won his World Series rings in New York and I'm sure that's important to him.

As The Sports Guy put it, Roger should go in sporting a cap with a $, but the Yankees are close enough.

Let's put it this way:

...if it were up to Clemens (which it is), he would go in as a New York Yankee.

...if it were up to anyone outside of the New York area, he would go in with a Boston cap.

...but if it were up to Tim Moysey, Clemens would go in as a Blue Jay. :D

He has to go in as a Red Sox going in as a Yankee would be Wrong.

Exactly. As the curator has said, it's a historical museum, and history records Clemens as being most successful as a Red Sox. It's not about personal preference. If it was, Gary Carter would go in as a Met, not an Expo.

Clemens has to go in as a Red Sox. He had most of his best years with them, three Cy Youngs, and IIRC he is the last starting pitcher to win Cy Young and MVP in the same season (1986). Despite all the turbulent times when he was there, Clemens made his name as a member of the Red Sox. His two Cy Youngs in Toronto and the championship in New York are icing on the cake.

The Hall guys have said that they'll take the player's prefernce into consideration but in cases like Wade Boggs wanting to wear a D-Rays' hat they won't listen. I think Clemens has a some what better case but he should be wearing a Sox cap. If he wants to completely shit on everythiung he accomplished here and lose any last remaining Boston fans he should wear the Yank's cap.

Didn't Boggs have that written into his contract?

He still has fans who are Red Sox fans?

Suprisingly he does. The anti-management people and the Clemens rump swabs are still around here. A lot of people played little legue when Clemens was the man around here (85-91 or so).

Clemens is going in has a Red Sox. The HOF isn't going to really listen to Clemens. They want to play it safe and avoid any instances like Wade Boggs, or Nolan Ryan (he's a Angel, or Astro).

My $0.02

And what about Boston people reaction to Roger?

I think Boston hate his guts.

Like this runner (damn, I forgot his name just right now) from Oak Raiders who went to the Hall of Fame wearing the KC Cheifs shirt.

If the guy wants to go in as a Yankee- let him go in as a Yankee.

He won the most important title of his career as part of the Yankees organisation and doesn't seem to want anything to do with Boston.

Wade Boggs going in with Tampa is just plain stupid but since Roger has won two rings with the Yankees and earned himself a new fanbase- let him go in as a Yankee

I personally don't care. I'd like to see them split the logo on his cap so that it's 1/2 Boston and 1/2 NY

Well, including a team that he played for for a few seasons wouldn't be smart.

Not to mention, the three logos would look foolish. Like putting a BLUE maple leaf on a hockey sweater... :P

Clemens could go in like Cy Young or Mel Ott. No hat at all.

Honestly. Clemens will go in has a Red Sox, and it won't be that big a deal.

Anyone else think they should just eliminate logos on hats for HOFers?

That's the thing -- he has NO fanbase. Yankee fans never really warmed up to him, Toronto and Boston fans hate his guts. And again, it's not a matter of personal preference. The Hall of Fame has to do what's right for history. If Clemens went in as a Yankee, he'd be the only pitcher in history to hold the all-time wins record with one team and not be inducted into the Hall as a member of that team.

Anyone see that likability poll where Clemens finished dead last out of all well-known major leaguers? Something like 16% found him to be likable.

You're thinking of Marcus Allen.

And he went in as a Chief (his choice, I believe, which suggests NFL players DO have that perogative) because he was THAT pissed off at Al Davis. Davis' penchant for meddling in his head coach's business and making them bench a "washed up" Allen for his last few years in Oak...well, it was L.A. at the time. He felt forced out/run out/ dissed by the Raider organization (specifically Davis). And if you're wondering why hell Davis would get a hair up his ass about Allen getting too much playing time and making his coaches bench him...

...well...

...you just haven't followed the Raiders closely enough long enough. Davis *ALWAYS* does this to players and coaches alike. Talk to Shannahan, Shell, Gruden, Allen...

It gets real frustrating.

No. That's one of things that makes the HOF unique. The HOF should decide what hat someone wears and if that person has a problem with it that's really too bad.

The Hall of Fame induction ceremony isn't until this summer. And when he was voted in, this is what Marcus Allen had to say:

"I'd like to do something special and go into the Hall of Fame as both a Chief and a Raider if that's possible," Allen said. "I had a tumultuous time at the end with the Raiders, but it's hard to ignore all the great things that happened there. And I'd like to honor the Chiefs as well for the way the Hunt family treated me."

As a lifetime Raiders fan, I hope he gets to do it, as ever since he's left there was nothing but talk of him only going in as a Chief.
