Popular cartoon cat Garfield will be brought to life in a new movie - with Bill Murray providing the voice for the feline. The Twentieth Century Fox film is based on the comic strip and features cynical Garfield, who must tolerate the indignity of being saddled with a timid owner - played by Breckin Meyer - and a nitwit dog as housemates. Drawn by Jim Davis, Garfield marks his 25th anniversary on June 19, having debuted in 1978.

The dude who does the TSM movie updates on the site noted that they should just get the guy who did it for the cartoon. I agree totally and for the same reason, THAT is Garfield's voice to me, watching this will just have me asking myself "Why is Garfield's voice so fucked up?"

Bill Murray sounds pretty damn close to the cartoon in my opinion. Have I mentioned what a horrible god awful idea this is?
