Guest TheMikeSC Report post Posted May 29, 2003 Don't know how many of you have seen this DVD (get it if you can), but the WWE does a very nice thing -- while following Rey around Tijuana, they refuse to show his bare face. They always shoot from behind him or distort his face when they can't get a behind shot on him. I am just shocked that the WWE is actually doing something legitimately smart and triying to --- unlike WCW --- actually make his mask "mean" something. Then again, hearing him totally kayfabe his injury "from his match with Albert" was a bit much --- but you can't have it all. Now will they ever have the guts to do a history of their titles DVD? They haven't done a release featuring the history of their titles since early 1987. -=Mike ...Then again, how would they fit their once-weekly title changes onto less than 10 discs? Guest TheMikeSC Report post Posted May 29, 2003 Despite everyone knowing what he looks like already Cover your eyes all you marks Well, if one goes by WCW's ratings at that point, the audience who remembers it might not be that large. Rey just didn't work without the mask at all. He looks like a 15-year old kid. And the dude is married? I thought he was banging Tygress just a year or so ago. His wife, while not bad, sure as heck ain't Tygress. -=Mike
Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 30, 2003 Ring Rats do not make good wives but of course there are exceptions. The whole hospital segment was not needed.
Gert T 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2003 Was Rey the guy with Kurt Angle in the picture (with Rey's son) that was blurred out?
Guest wrestlingbs Report post Posted May 30, 2003 Was Rey the guy with Kurt Angle in the picture (with Rey's son) that was blurred out? Yeah, I think so. What was real hilarious was that when he talked to the camera, he not only put the mask on, but also the contacts! If I had just gone through knee sugery, I would be like, "There is no way in hell I'm putting those things on just to keep kayfabe going."
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted May 30, 2003 I was getting real pissed at the whole "Albert" thing... but then I looked at the match listing and I somehow lost the ability to say anything bad.
Guest Mole Report post Posted May 30, 2003 I went to get this DVD on Wednesday, but the guy told me that they pushed it back till June 3rd. Yes, he does look better with his mask. He just seems like a cooler wrestler, plus his wrestling was better when he had it on.
thuganomics 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2003 They did the "can't show his face" thing on Tough Enough 3 too. It's nice that WWE shows respect for luchadors in that respect. That's about the only thing WWE shows respect for though...

Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted May 30, 2003 Don't those wrestlers in Mexico and Japan who win government positions wear their masks (if they wear any) to meetings? In Mexico I'd assume so, since it would be respected by most people. Another funny, although slightly disturbing bit.... *Rey about his bedroom* : This is where the freaky-deeky happens. I guess that's also where the Bronco Buster originated.
Guest Rob Edwards Report post Posted May 30, 2003 In Mexico guys get BURIED in masks, gotta love that kayfabe eh? although talk is that a lot of Mexicans want to give Rey a good slap for working with a mask again after losing a mask match, they take their traditions seriously down there

However, at this rate, WWE will probably want him to unmask, as part of their new "all guys in masks get buried except for Mr. America" policy.

That's about the only thing WWE shows respect for though... They don't "respect" anything about his tradition. He's just more marketable with the mask, and that's it. Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted May 30, 2003 Is it true on the DVD that he says he's never lost his mask? I read that somewhere.
Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted May 30, 2003 It's funny how they wouldn't break kayfabe with the "Albert" thing on the DVD but yet they show rey in pictures with guys like Angle (a heel who Rey actually feuded with).
Guest pete Report post Posted May 30, 2003 When he said he has never lost his march on the DVD was taken from an interview prior to him dropping the mask to Nash.
Guest Celtic Jobber Report post Posted June 2, 2003 They actually do show Rey's face on the DVD - if you look closely at part where he shows the action figures in his son's room, you can see the Toybiz Rey Mysterio figure from right before WCW went out of business, which has a picture of him without the mask on the package. I guess they forgot to blur that one...
Guest Doyo Report post Posted June 3, 2003 If they truely wanted to respect tradition, then they wouldn't have made him put the mask back on. Once you lose your mask in Mexico, it is like losing your virginity, there is no going back. They take their wrestling very serious down there. It is very rare for someone to lose their mask and when it happens many of the fans will cry. It is shameful for a wrestler to lose his mask and I'd bet most of the Mexican fans think it is a total farce for Rey to put his mask back on. Imagine if the Joker ripped off Batman's mask revealing him to the world as Bruce Wayne. His mystique would be gone. It wouldn't make any sense for him to run around with a mask on going "I'm Batman." People would laugh at him. Rey himself was against the idea of putting the mask back on. Of course, a WWE paycheck can change one's mind quickly. The WWE cares about making money. They can sell masks as merchandise if Rey wears one and they think it makes him more marketable.
