Guest Old Brown Heineken Report post Posted May 30, 2003 I'd go The (original) Sheik Ed Farhat. Over the past twenty years, The Sheik maintained his position as wrestling's quintessential mat madman. The Sheik was the most hated wrestler at a time when fans regularly attacked bad guys on their way to the ring. His hardcore style paved the way for future heels, including his nephew, Terry Brunk, better known as Sabu. Known for his Arabic head covering and use of foreign objects, The Sheik brutalized larger men like Brazil, Harley Race and Wild Bull Curry. He would look skyward and pray to Allah before dissecting his foes with a sharpened wooden spike. Certainly the carnage he wrought was real and it horrified some fans. Without The Sheik, however, we likely wouldn’t have had an Undertaker or other classic heels. He paved the way for future violence during an era when wrestlers were as tough as nails because they had to be to survive inside the ring and out.
