Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 1, 2003 So Silas goes To Cleveland... Gundy inks with Houston... Cheeks is released...Heads Home to Philly. Carlise is hired by Portland (and they ENRUPT) And the Duds looking for a Job before this cycle remain coachless (LAC, Toronto, Atlanta)...
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2003 Hey Choken I'd actually look for Duns to land here with the Rockets before Van Gundy. Word has it that Mike's interview with Carroll Dawson (Rockets' GM) and Les Alexander went very well, and JVG's was so-so. Then on tonight's news one of our local sportscasters (one who actually knows what he's doing) said that Dunleavy wanted the Rockets' job VERY badly, and even used the word "desperate". I guess he'd rather have Yao and Steve then rebuild Atlanta. Can't say as I blame him.
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted June 1, 2003 Houston - Mike Dunleavy Cleveland - Paul Silas Portland - Rick Carlisle? Philadelphia - Mo Cheeks Detroit - Larry Brown New Orleans - Fratello/Brian Hill/Tim Floyd? Atlanta - Van Gundy? Toronto - ? Washington - ? Los Angeles Clippers - ? Has anybody heard the candidates for the lesser jobs? I don't think anybody is going to want to go to the Clippers, especially if they lose their starting 5 in Free Agency, which is very possible. Tubby Smith turned down Philly, are there any College candidates for jobs? The only name I have heard so far is Mike Jarvis.
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted June 1, 2003 Well, ESPNews is now reporting the Portland has NOT given Mo Cheeks permission to interview for the Philly job. Maybe they will work something out for a draft pick or two.
Guest JHawk Report post Posted June 1, 2003 Question: Was Cheeks fired or did he resign? If he was fired, can they actually tell him not to interview with other teams?
Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 1, 2003 Cheeks is still the coach of the Blazers with a year left...Portland has the right to say if he can interview with another team...
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted June 1, 2003 ESPN is now reporting that the Blazers have given Cheeks permission to talk to the Sixers because they are interested in Carlise. keep in mind that ESPN is the 1wrestling of sports.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 1, 2003 Are they insane? Only Cheeks can keep that aslyum in check... Carlise will get his ass run over by Sheed...
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted June 1, 2003 Paul Allen the owner of Portland had said changes would be made in the off season. Maybe their planning to get rid of some of the trouble makers.
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted June 1, 2003 Paul Allen the owner of Portland had said changes would be made in the off season. Maybe their planning to get rid of some of the trouble makers. I could see some major changes happening in Portland this off season. I see Stoudamire, Derek Anderson, Dale Davis, and either Sheed or Bonzi outta there. (they'll keep either Sheed or Bonzi, but won't deal both) Carlisle in Portland doesn't sound right to me. Perhaps the Charlotte job? I heard Cleveland is interested in Van Gundy. But then again, who isn't. And don't rule out a possible coaching change in Sacramento either. Adelman is more the Del Harris of the league than Carlisle. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted June 1, 2003 Cleveland got Paul Silas
Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 1, 2003 This is just confusing...I am half-expecting LA announcing Jackson has been fired and they are hiring Van Gundy to shake things up... Has Brown been made offical yet? I'm kinda hoping Brown pulls a Parcells here on Detroit...to serve them right.
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted June 2, 2003 I heard that Dumars and Carlisle never got along and since Rick was in the last year of his conntract at $2 million, JD decided to cut his losses now while Larry Brown was available. Also, now that Silas has signed on with the Cavs and Brown with the Pistons, where will Van Gundy go? Supposedly, Portland denied the 76ers again from talking to Mo Cheeks, so that leaves Philly, Clips, Nuggets, Rockets, Hornets, Hawks, and Wizards with coaching vacancies. Guest Lethargic Report post Posted June 2, 2003 I think Van Gundy will end up staying with TNT. He just doesn't seem very gung ho about going back to coaching. After all these coaching changes I'm surprised that Rick Adelman has lasted. I never understood why he even got the job. He's always been a mediocre coach. A top of the line coach and the Kings probably would've won a title by now. He's done less with more than any other coach in the league. All I know is that I wish next season started on June 21st. There are about 2 dozen interesting storylines going into next season and the draft and free agency hasn't even happened yet. WWF needs the NBA's writing staff. Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 2, 2003 I'm still thinking Houston's Taking Van Gundy or Van Gundy will settle for Iverson (he'll he put up with Spree...AI isn't new terrortory)...
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted June 2, 2003 Both Van Gundy and the Sixers announced that they were no longer going to talk. Fratello pulled out of the Hornets job today. I bet Carlisle goes there. If the younger player thing is true, that seems like a good fit. The whole team is pretty much veterans.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 2, 2003 Well...Gundy is Houston or back to TNT and waiting for the likely Sacramento/Dallas/Charlotte job for next-next season.
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted June 2, 2003 Isn't the Dallas job technically open right now? I think Cubes would be a fool to not bring back Nelson, but who can tell what that man is going to do?
Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 2, 2003 Nelson hasn't been fired or released or resigned and Gundy or any other coaches haven't been contacted so it's not open as far as I can tell...
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted June 2, 2003 I thought Nelson's contract ended when the season was over, or does he still have one year left?
Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 2, 2003 One year left if I recall when ESPN talked about Nelson desire to leave...
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted June 2, 2003 The last report I heard stated that Dunleavy is the lead man for the Rockets job. Fratello has lowered his asking price to $2.5 million and he is waiting for the Clips to respond. i think he would be a perfect fit for the Clips. The free agents and the fans need any glimmer of hope and a sign that Sterling is looking to win. It would be sio ironic if the 76ers and the Pistons exchange coaches. Guest Lethargic Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Why is Mike Fratello considered a good coach? If my team signed him it wouldn't give me any hope at all. What has he ever done to make him so great? Seems to me that he's only good at color commentary and the reason he does that is because he's been fired from every job he's had. He's not a bad coach but I don't remember him ever being great and worthy of the hype he gets.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted June 3, 2003 It would be sio ironic if the 76ers and the Pistons exchange coaches. Well if Cheeks goes too Philly and Carlisle ends up in Portland. We'd see a 3 way trade involving coaches. I wonder why teams are so afraid of taking a chance at someone new? It's the same names everytime an opening comes up. Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted June 5, 2003 proven commodities = less risk. Word out of ESPN, is that the Clips are interviewing Carlisle this week at the Pre-Draft camp in Chicago. Rick would be an awesome fit for this team, if they sign any of them.

Fratello took a team with not many superstars and made them a great team, not once but twice(actually I think it is 3 times but I can't remember the 3rd team) on top of that he is a basketball genius. I think he would make a great coach somewhere.
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted June 5, 2003 Agreed. The Czar took a sorry Cleveland team and made them competitive by playing slow-ball. He also took a young and talented team to the limit in the East before they got bounced by the great Celtics teams in the 80’s. He’d be a good, solid coach for any team especially a young team with loaded talent like the Rockets.
