What should I get

Recommended Posts

Guest Youth N Asia

I currently have a PS2, and while I like it I'm going to want something new in the near future. But I don't know if I want a Gamecube or an X-Box.

I'm not big on first person shooters, but I want to try Halo and see what the big deal is...but Metroid Prime doesn't do anything for me from what I've seen.

I use to be big into RPGs, but they just aren't making them like they use to.

And I just can't make myself sit at the computer for too long, so I'm not into PC games.

What would Jesus do? Err, the Smarks.

Nintendo has better bundle deals and soon the Game Boy Player will be bundle with the Game Cube if you can wait that long. Right now there is the Metroid or Zelda or Mario Sunshine bundles at $149.

X-Box bundle comes with Jet Set Future and a racing game I think it is Sega GT but not sure at $179. X-Box does have a hard drive and LIVE broadband gaming.

I honestly think Halo is a little overrated. I hate the controls and unless you have a lot of people over to play video games it gets real boring.

If it's going to be just you playing more often than not then I'd go with the Gamecube. Nintendo doesn't fail at bringing the FUN~!

And were you saying Metroid Prime just doesn't look that good or have you played it? Cause it's an incredible game.

Metroid is pretty damn over-rated for what it is worth.

Halo does have a kick ass online multiplayer (download a patch), plus has tremendous sports games, PGR, Outlaw Golf, Morrowind (you'd love this game) etc.

My choice...X-Box

What did you think was overrated about it? It had great gameplay, great graphics, fun levels. I think it get's most of it's heat cause it's First Person and people didn't want a first person Metroid.

I'm still not sold on the XBox. Maybe it's just my opinion, but I still find it to not be a good investment of my money.

This is also coming from someone who loves the X-Box. Bias, bias, bias.

I've played a couple games for both (some Mario game and WM for GC, DOA and Halo for X-Box). Although the controller is a piece of shit, I think X-Box is the superior system. Just buy a new controller.

I'd say go for the Xbox. Halo is the best game I've ever played (closely followed by Splinter Cell) and they have lots of kickass games (DOA3, Tao Feng, Amped, Unreal Championship, UFC Tapout and more). Furthermore, there's Xbox LIVE. Can't go wrong with that.

Do you like Online Gaming? If so, XBOX.

Do you like Classic Franchises (Zelda, Metroid, Mario)? If so, Gamecube.

Do you like versatility (Games, CDs, DVDs, Hardrive) If so, XBOX.

Do you like accessories (Wavebird, GBA Adapter)? If so, Gamecube.

Do you like mature titles? If so, XBOX.

Do you like games that have depth? If so, Gamecube.

Gamecube is 149.99 with a free game and a sweet demo disc.

XBOX is 179.99 with two free games and at some retailers you also get a Platinum Greatest Hit for free as well.

Futhermore, XBOX II and PS3 are more likely to be backwards compatible than the new Nintendo Machine. So if you buy an XBOX, you're not completely hosed.

Personally I have all three systems. I use my XBOX for online gaming. I use my Gamecube for Zelda and Metroid thats it. I use my PS2 for everything else. Just depends on what your particular need is out of a video game system.

I'd recommend the X-Box but I prefer more mature games like the Halos of the world over the Mario Brothers of the world. Essentially, I wanna kill shit and play the occasional well done basketball simulator and the X-Box gives me that. You also get a lot of PS2 titles with extras on X-Box. But thats just me, I don't like anything on Gamecube up to this point.

I've stuck with nintendo through the years. I had an XBox, but after RAW pissed me the hell off, the controller blew and the game selection just wasn't so appealing, I sold it to pay a light bill. I recently picked up the Cube and am enjoying playing Mario sunshine and Metroid Prime. I am eagerly awaitng WM19, as I think it will be the better game over RAW 2. they can hype that POS title up all they want and make it look great, but I know the game will suck. Cube is damn fun, you can get all your basic sports titles on it and the core games rule all. I say the Cube.

I think GameCube still has a slightly better library, but I recommend X-Box. GameCube seems to be fading out a bit, and it had a pretty weak showing at E3 by most accounts. X-Box really seems to be hitting its stride, and it looks like there'll be more interesting games in the next couple years.

I have all three systems.

The only one that I play with any regularity is XBox.

X-box, yo.

DOA3 = the shit, and any fighting game that allows you to do a release german suplex off of a 3rd story window has my vote.

I have been a Nintendo follower since I was 3, and so far, I have made the right decision in getting only Nintendo stuff.

NES: Wow......set the standard for gaming

SNES: I had the greatest years of gaming on this system, even though PS1 hovered around, I'd rather stick to the 16 bit. PS1 never actually caught my eye enough for me to say....I NEED IT.

N64: Some say this was the worst system Nintendo made. PS1 took over once N64 didn't do that good. I believe this was the second best era for Nintendo gaming. Mario 64, Pilotwings...GOLDENEYE. GE was like the father of FPS!

Now, we are down to the new era with GCN. Right now, GCN has beat out the N64 era. GCN has quite a Zelda game, Metroid Prime as a FPA, Final Fantasy returning to Nintendo, and a whole selection of games being released later this year and into 2004 like Mario Kart, Harvest Moon, etc.

XBOX............well.................sometimes I forget it exists really. No game on that system has gotten a hold of me. Halo, the game that put XBOX on the map....is NOT the best game EVER MADE. Halo gets boring EXTREMELY quick. My friend.......who is NOT SMART at all with gaming thinks XBOX is the saving grace of the gaming world! He tells me these outrageous stories about XBOX2, on how it bought out Nintendo, and they are working on the system together.....GODDAMNIT. You tell him that Halo sucks........he will KILL YOU. False hype.......

If I was in your situation.....good ol' GCN would be my choice.........

PS2 breaks easy. Get the Gamecube if you want SNES games remixed, redone, rearranged, rereleased on mini discs.

Metroid is a great single player game but with no replay and multiplayer value.

No replay? It's very hard to get 100% in Metriod, so saying it has no replay value is moot.
