Baby Boy...

Guest Mole

I saw this movie a while ago, and I've seen it a few times again this week because it was on HBO a few times.

I really like this movie because it's a good look into the life of the ghetto. Since I live in a town where there are no black people, I am pretty sheltered when it comes to this stuff.

Tyrese does a pretty good job in his first movie role, along with Omar Gooding. He plays a completley different character than from what I remember him from, Hanging with Mr Cooper.

What do you fellas think?

I seem to be one of the few people who love this movie. Tyrese and Omar do good acting jobs, and Snoop was great in his role. It's a lot better than people give it credit for.

I personally hated it. But, that's just me. It was just a bad movie to me.

It was a bad movie, but it was fun to watch. I wanted to see Snoop get smoked.

I thought the movie was bad because of the cliched "ghetto" references. It just kind of plodded along. The performances were overly dramatized for some characters and they didn't pull it off. I meant, in a nutshell, that this was no technical masterpiece, but I liked it.

Can you define "ghetto" references ?

Jesus, I'm not trying to get all critical here, it just seemed really cliched to me because it cenetered around a young male with a kid having problems with his child's mother and trying to figure out if he is going to commit, Snoop's constant use of marijuana ( though when is something involving him not centered around that) and every character having a gun on cue, the main character longing to get out of the hood etc. Usually is exactly the same in most movies of this kind. I was highly entertained by it especially when they lined up the younger clique and punched each one out. Cool movie, just to me, it seemed like I'd seen the same movie before with different actors. Am I off the hotseat?

I was never agitated. It just seemed like instead of having conversation, I was getting singled out. From what was explained, can you see what I meant in my earlier points now?

Hey, I wasn't trying to cause any problems, just wanted to know exactly what you meant.

To answer you question:

No, your not on the hotseat... you were never on it.

Mole, you're about as straightforward as they come, I like that.

This thread makes me want to watch the mvie again because I haven't viewed it in about a year when I stopped paying for HBO.

I do remember Ving Rames (sp?) looking bigger than usual in this film.

What do you mean exactly by starightforward?

Ving Rhames looked HUGE in this movie, I think he had to get bigger for the role.

You and I have argued over things before, and come to terms always. Instead of throwing out insults and trying to create an image of being superior, you just voice what you think and acknowledge others as human beings. That's what I meant, just something I've noticed over the months.

He was in fantastic shape seemingly in this movie, perhaps it was filmed around the same time as Undisputed.

i've been wanting to see this movie for a while, cause john singleton came & spoke at my college about a year ago and talked a little about the movie. it was in development for a long time with 2pac (who was originally supposed to play the main character).

Ehh, it really wasn't on par with his other movies, especially Boyz in tha Hood. Time doesn't exactly fly while you watch this one. For me atleast, it was a movie that I thought really really dragged on. I was checkin my watch every 20 minutes. Plus the acting sucked. Minus Ving, and even Jody...sometimes. The rest was shitty ass. Especially Omar Gooding, Fuck, he sucked.

Thanks bro, I've noticed the same about you.

You thought Omar sucked? I thought he did the best.

Dear lord. That movie is the biggest, most pointless piece of crap I have seen in a while and John Singleton continues his decline in my eyes. He started with Boyz in the Hood, went on to Higher Learning(Michael Rapaport was DA MAN) and then Rosewood. But it is the trash like this, and Poetic Justice that just kills the guy to me.

What was wrong with the movie...lets see. Omar and Ving did a GREAT job in the film. AAAAAAnd thats it. Everyone elses acting was porno movie quality with laughably bad dialogue.

There wasn't a single positive character in the movie, with Ving Rhames coming the closest (You know the 2 strike having woman beater). The scene with Tyrese and Omar talking about killing Snoop was embarassing. "We gone smoke this mutha-fucka dog....now lets pray" WTF!!!!!

PLEASE, PLEASE don't let this be the your example of what it is like in the hood. PLEASE. There was nothing remotely realistic about this film. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I weren't black and wasn't so busy getting pissed off about all the stereotypes, no black people that actually wanted to do something with themselves, the stupid chicken head ass girls and such.

This movie comes close to reaching Belly as the worst urban drama in recent history but Omar and Ving save it from that. Though it can be entertaining at some points (Ving whoopin Tyrese's ass for one) all together John Singleton should be ashamed of this film.

I didn't like it because it was cliche hood movie and almost Belly bad, but theres some truth to the movie because I have friends or know cats like Jody. But, I think they over exaggerated (sp?) how life in the hood is. The storyline plots didn't make no sense, Omar wants to get saved and then him and Jody smokes Snoop without any consequences WTF? This is the worst John Singleton movie.
