Guest INXS Report post Posted June 1, 2003 I took this from 411wrestling/mania WWE House Show Results 05.31.03 - Portland, OR [RAW] Two reports of WWE's anticipated return to OR... Thanks to 411 reader Sickboy for sending this report in. 1st Match WWE Intercontinental Title Christian vs. Booker T Christian had plenty of heel heat. Tons of "Christian sucks" & "Asshole" chants and Booker was WAY over with the crowd. He even did 2 spin-a-rooni's. The crowd was way into this match and Christian ended up getting the pin by using Booker's tights. Atta boy Christian. That guy is going nowhere but up and you can cleary see....his heart beeps for his peeps! 2nd Match Tag action Goldust & Maven vs. Lance Storm & Mark Jindrak I must've been the only person who marked out for Mark Jindrak! Maven got a great hometown ovation and plenty of "Maven" chants. The crowd is really pumped tonight. Goldust and Maven got the win when Goldust did a powerslam on Mark Jindrak. A powerslam as the finisher? Kind of lame.....but the crowd loved it. 3rd Match WWE Women's Championship Title Jazz w/Theodore Long vs. Victoria w/Stevie Richards vs. Ivory vs. Jaqueline The crowd was very pissed that Trish Stratus wasn't there. There were plenty of "We want Trish" chants. The crowd was basically dead for the first part of the match which saw Jaqueline and Victoria get eliminated quickly. The crowd started to liven up when it was Jazz vs. Ivory and they HATED Jazz! But Jazz ended up getting the win over fellow Pacific Northwesterner Ivory. Ivory got a standing ovation after the match. 4th Match Rico w/Jackie Gayda vs. Lance Cade Nobody had the slighest clue who Lance Cade was. When he first came out he was wearing a cowbody hat and cowboy boots and plenty of people thought he was the blonde haired version of Bradshaw. I was really surprised to see Jackie Gayda with Rico. It's only a matter of time before they show up on TV together. It was a pretty good match........but the crowd really wasn't into it at all besides the "Rico sucks" chants and such. Jackie Gayda did a really good job and even looked good as a valet. This could be a great pairing. Rico won the match by the way. 5th Match The Dudley Boyz vs. Chris Nowinski & Rodney Mack Everybody loved the Dudley Boyz. There were never-ending chants of "We want tables" and "Insert Dudley name here". Nowinski and Mack played up to the crowd BIG TIME. There were "Harvard sucks" chants and such. Nowinski and Mack won the match which really dissapointed the crowd who had hoped to see tables. But they were relieved when Spike F'N Dudley ran down and gave both Nowinski and Mack the Dudley Dog. And then Bubba & D-Von gave Nowinski the 3-D through a table! After the match the Dudley's played up to the crowd for about 10 minutes which resulted in a kid getting pulled out of the audience and getting a piece of the broken table. Good stuff. Intermission.......aka beer time! 6th Match WWE Tag Team Titles RVD & Kane vs. La Resistance La Resistance got major heel heat. They got on the mic and spoke some stuff in French which nobody could understand...that resulted in a "USA" chant. Then finally RVD & Kane's music came out to a HUGE POP. The match was really good with La Resistance playing the role of the egotistical yet cowardly heels. RVD & Kane picked up the win with a 5 Star Frog Splash. Then they played up to the crowd a bit. 7th Match Val Venis vs. Test Both these guys got great reactions from the crowd when they first came out.......but plenty of "Boring" chants were heard throughout the match. When the match first started there was a "We want Stacy" chant and Test replied by grabbing the mic and saying "You want Stacy? Too bad. I told that bitch to stay at home!" Good stuff by Test. It was a fairly boring match but Test finally picked up the win. After the match Val Venis did the "Hogan pose" where you find which part of the audience is the loudest and he threw his towel out to that side. Howard Finkel gets on the mic and say's "There are good crowds, great crowds, and Portland crowds!" Basically giving us props for cheering our asses off all-night long. He then said "We've had a 10 year absence from the great city of Portland. But I promise that'll never happen again! Check your local television stations for upcoming live events!" I read somewhere that the WWE plans on coming to Portland 3-4 times a year. That'd be hella sweet. Chris Jericho's Highlight Reel! Woo hoo! The best part of the evening! Jericho comes out to major heel heat. He gets on the mic and say's great things like "This is the City of Roses? Looks more like the City of Jackasses!" which got major laughs from me. He played the crowd for awhile before introducing his guest......The Hurricane! They insulted each other back and forth for a bit before The Hurricane noticed that Jericho was wearing his wrestling boots, his tape, and his "pink pajamas" which resulted in a brief altercation and Jericho running off. Good stuff. 8th Match Worlds Championship Title HHH w/Ric Flair vs. Kevin Nash Both wrestlers came out to GREAT ovations! Obviously not everybody hates HHH like the Internet wants you to believe. The crowd was majorly into this match with most people standing up through the whole thing. HHH bladed early but it was one of those blades with not much blood. Weak! Towards the end of the match HHH ended up knocking out the actual ref which resulted in Nash getting hit with a chair and then Flair signaling for another ref. The ref ran down but Nash kicked out. Nash ended up hitting HHH with the title and GETTING THE PIN! The crowd erupted thinking there was actually a new Worlds Champion! But the regular ref decided to be a jackass and reverse the decision since he saw Nash use the title to get the pin. This resulted in Nash giving HHH the jack-knife and the crowd going home with voices lost. Biggest Heat 1. Chris Jericho 2. Christian 3. La Resistance 4. Chris Nowinski 5. HHH Most popular 1. The Dudley Boyz 2. RVD & Kane 3. Booker T 4. Kevin Nash 5. The Hurricane Overall a great show. Hope to see more sometime soon. ------------------------------------------------- Thanks to 411 reader Steve Purvis for sending in this report. Place was damn near full with only some of the upper deck not full, around 15,000 I’d say, pretty good for a house show, super hot crowd all night too. 1) Christian retains IC title over Booker T by pinfall with his feet on the ropes. Good warm up match for the PPV in a couple weeks; both guys were really over, solid match. 2) Goldust/Maven over Lance Storm/Mark Jindrak, Goldust pinned one of the heels with a powerslam, but I don’t remember which one. Goldust and Storm both got good reactions, no one knew who Jindrak was and no one cared who Maven was. Solid, but unspectacular. 3) Jazz over Ivory, Victoria, and Jacqueline to retain Women’s belt. Jazz pins Jacqueline with a freakin dropkick for the first elimination, then Ivory pins Victoria with a rollup, then Jazz beats Ivory with the STF. Ivory looked good and was pushed as the big face in this match, while all the others looked sloppy. Again, decent but nothing special. 4) Rico over Lance Cade. Shitty match and no one cared about either guy. All Rico did was kick and Cade is greener than Maven and La Resistance combined, next. 5) Rodney Mack/Nowinski over Dudley Boys. Sweet Jesus are the Dudleys over, they got mad heat for EVERYTHING they did. Nowinski pins a Dudley after a shot with his facemask. After the match he gets 3D’d through a table. Pretty damn good tag match that hit 15 minutes easily. 6) Kane/RVD retain tag titles over La Resistance. This was a surprisingly good match that could turn out to be really good on the PPV with 2 more weeks practice. RVD pretty much steals the whole show with his performance, he was great. The champs were over huge as you would imagine and the French guys sure can stall with the best of them. 7) Jericho’s Hi Light Reel with Hurricane. Jericho runs down Portland and all the fans, makes fun of some signs, etc, he was really on his game too and was funny as hell. Hurricane stands up for us beats up Jericho but ends up with a boot to the junk for his trouble. One of the best segments of the night despite not being a match. 8) Test over Val Venis. Not a good match. No one cared about Val and no one knew whether Test was a heel or face without Stacey, he “left that bitch at home” as he put it. Lot of rest holds and a real slow pace, I guess these guys are getting ready for the main event or something. Good exchange at the end but too little, too late. Test with the BOOT. 9) The main event saw HHH beat Nash by DQ. Same match as last weekends houseshows. Nash ‘wins’ the title with a belt shot after a ref bump, original ref wakes up reverses the decision and HHH keeps the belt. Actual wrestling moves in this match, ie not a punch, kick, boot, or clothesline: Nash = 3, HHH = 0. Horrible, horrible match. Flair was great on the outside as would be expected, we were even treated to a Flair flop. HHH got a huge face reaction sadly, the biggest of the night really. Nash didn’t get much thankfully, kinda like a mercy pop that died off once everyone realized how much he sucked. Overall, a pretty good houseshow with the best crowd I’ve seen in a long time. Better than all the RAWs and Smackdowns as of late and probably better than the last two PPVs, sadly.
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted June 1, 2003 Maven got a great hometown ovation and plenty of "Maven" chants I thought Maven was from Chantilly Virginia?
Guest CanadianChick Report post Posted June 1, 2003 It's funny how two reports can be conflicting. I guess that's due to bias.
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2003 Maven is from Chalottesville, VA. He had the hometown reaction when he was in Southwestern VA in April - I don't know about last night in Portland. As someone who regularly reads numerous different reports for house show results, you'd be surprised how different two recaps can be lol
Guest CanadianChick Report post Posted June 1, 2003 I know, I've always noticed that. One report would say that HHH got no reaction and another would say he got the pop of the night. Well, I guess the old saying is true: there are three sides to a story; my side, your side and the truth.
Guest geniusMoment Report post Posted June 1, 2003 I think one of those reports came from the fourth floor of an office building in Stanford.
Guest The Metal Maniac Report post Posted June 1, 2003 I like how the first report said that HHH and Nash got huge pops, but they were like, 4 and 5 on those "Most heat" lists. If that's even remotely accurate, that's a bad sign. When both your main eventers are getting less heat then most anyone else who's getting decent heat...well... Guest raptor Report post Posted June 1, 2003 I was there: I think that the people that sent in the reports were just mistified by the fact that Maven was very over. He and Goldust reallly had the crowd around their finger. Nash and HHH did get very good pops, and the crowd was really into the false finish. I think I was the only person who was booing both guys. Lots of Whoos for Flair, but that always happens. The Dudley Boys were the most over people in the building. It was really insane, and you could feel the arena moving when D-Von was playing Ricky Morton because the crowd was so behind him. Jindral, Cade, and Gayda looked good. Sad thing is though, most of their offense was punchy-kicky. They busted out a few things that crisp, showing some potential. Val and Test got very very good reactions upon their entrance, but the match was pretty dead. It was a good match, though. Both men got a nice reaction after the match, too. Guest Mole Report post Posted June 2, 2003 Jericho with the most heat? Vince should learn something from this...
