Guest Mole Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 1. ''Finding Nemo,'' $70.6 million. 2. ''Bruce Almighty,'' $35.6 million. 3. ''The Italian Job,'' $19.3 million. 4. ''The Matrix Reloaded,'' $15 million. 5. ''Daddy Day Care,'' $6.8 million. 6. ''X2: X-Men United,'' $5.02 million. 7. ''Wrong Turn,'' $5.01 million 8. ''The In-Laws,'' $3.7 million 9. ''Down With Love,'' $1.6 million. 10. ''Bend It Like Beckham,'' $1 million This is even better for Nemo considering how most of the tickets were for children and matinee shows.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 Matrix keeps on falling and falling. I'm guessing Italian Job is ocnsidered a non-hit too(not exactly a bomb either). Anyone else noticed how, silently, Daddy Day Care has earned quite a decent amount of cash?
Guest Nevermortal Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 Too bad for Wrong Turn. But there was absolutely NO PROMOTION WHATSOEVER for it.
Guest Karnage Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 I thought Italian Job was gonna be atleast #2.
Guest HBK16 Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 I went to see Italian Job and it was a good movie. I was going to go see Finding Nemo but time ran out for me this weekend so I guess it will have to wait.
Guest Mole Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 Too bad for Wrong Turn. But there was absolutely NO PROMOTION WHATSOEVER for it. Plenty for it on FX this week during Buffy.
Guest Dangerous A Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 I'm noticing a pattern of huge dropoffs for the number 1 movie every week since this summer's movie season kicked in. X2 saw a sharp drop We see what's happening to Matrix. Now Bruce Almighty has dropped from 85 mill last weekend to 35 this weekend. That's nothing to sneeze at and it's a sure fire hit, but I don't remember seeing this kind of dropoff for a bunch of number 1 movies in the summer. I think the advent of DVD's and the fact they are released so early really is impacting the box office trememdously.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 Seems to be the culmination of a general trend in the moviegoing mentality. More than ever, number one weekend are the big thing. I remember following the box office very closely in 1997 and 1998, and it was much more common for a big movie to drop off about 40% its second weekend. Now we're consistently seeing drops well over 50%. I wonder if the trend will continue with Finding Nemo next week, or if its presence as the one really big kids and family movie will keep it going.
Guest Choken One Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 what big movies are out next week? that will make a difference...Since Schools are letting out or already have Finding Nemo will be drawing some good scratch...
Guest Youth N Asia Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 I think everyone who wanted to see the Matrix saw it on day 1. So I'm not that shocked. I'm glad X2 is hanging on, I really liked it. And I'm shocked Finding Nemo did those kind of numbers.
Guest Mole Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 Why? It got good reviews, past Pixar movies were great, and kids would love to see it.
Guest Choken One Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 Animated movies always tend to make great bank...as long as it has good reviews and interesting premise...it'll sell bundles.
Guest Downhome Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 what big movies are out next week? that will make a difference...Since Schools are letting out or already have Finding Nemo will be drawing some good scratch... Not too much... - 2 Fast 2 Furious - The Eye (NY, LA) - Love the Hard Way (NY) - Whale Rider (NY, LA) ...I don't think the standings will change all that much for next week at all. The Eye is pretty damn good though, I downloaded it and watched it a few weeks ago. It's an interesting type of horror film, I really enjoyed it.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 Fast and the Furious 2 will undoubtedly be #1, but I don't think it'll pull much audience away from Finding Nemo. Street racing and cartoon fish don't usually fly together.
Guest Retro Rob Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 2F2F looks like it will SUCK BIG TIME!
Guest Choken One Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 2F2F will be #1 no question...It won't get numbers like the last four big release but it'll reach around 45 mil.
Guest HBK16 Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 2F2F pisses me off. I am trying to talk people out of seeing that piece of shit.
Guest Mole Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 2F2F will make atleast $60 million. Think about all those people out there who LOVE cars, they will see this movie.
Guest Smues Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 WOW FAST CARS MUST PAY MONEY TO WATCH!!! bah
Guest Vyce Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 Anyone notice a trend with all of these movies? And has anyone else noticed how this movie season is turning out JUST like the 2001 movie season did? Summer of 2001 had a "big" film openeing EVERY weekend. And it would make a shitload of money that first weekend, then promptly fade into oblivion. Very few of the films of 2001 had any real strong staying power. For example, "Planet of the Apes" with Marky Mary made something like 60 million the first weekend, then fell off the face of the planet. Same with "Rush Hour 2", etc. Two things I'm glad off, though: X-Men 2 has managed to make a nice chunk of change, and "Bend it Like Beckham" (the the sexiest tomboy beanpole on the planet, Kiera Knightley!) is in the top ten.
Guest Mole Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 Finding Nemo will stay in the top for a while, it is the onlygood family friendly movie out right now. I'll see it sometime this week.

Guest El Satanico Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 Does anyone know when or if The Eye is going wide?
Guest wrestlingbs Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 I never saw FatF, so I probably won't see 2F2F. Never much of a car racing guy. Pixar movies always are good draws, but regular Disney movies are usually flops at the box office now. Treasure Planet was one of Disney's biggest bombs at the box office, and Lilo & Stitch, while I thought it was good, didn't have people rushing to get tickets either.
Guest Mole Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 Pixar movies always are good draws, but regular Disney movies are usually flops at the box office now. Treasure Planet was one of Disney's biggest bombs at the box office, and Lilo & Stitch, while I thought it was good, didn't have people rushing to get tickets either. Lilo & Stich made $145.8 million domestic and $117 million overseas, so $262.8 million all together. It only cost $80 million to make, so I would say it made a good amount of money. Disney isn't doing that well other than Pixar movies and Signs. Pixar and M. Night are the saviors of Disney.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 wait wait wait, THE EYE?! Is it the Japanese one?
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 Next Week: 1. 2 Fast 2 Furious ( Yes, I will see it... I have been waiting for it's release. I enjoyed the first. What can I say ? I have my own taste in Movies ) 2. Finding Nemo ( But the drop won't be huge ) 3. Bruce Almighty 4. The Italian Job 5. The Matrix: Reloaded " Bend It Like Beckham " could move up in the Top 10. " Down With Love " will probably make a quick exit out of the Top 10. " Wrong Turn " should expect a big drop.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 well, I'm off to see if The Eye is gonna be showing in STL
