Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted June 4, 2003 Han is far more popular than Luke is, which is why he's there. Luke is certainly the better hero, but Han is the cooler one, which is why Han made it above Luke. I'm still pissed that John McLane didn't make the list. How Hans Gruber made it on and the McLane didn't confuses me. The other big snub was Blofeld on the villain's side. I wouldn't really consider Bonnie & Clyde villains either. If Butch & Sundance are heroes, how come they aren't?
Guest Grand Slam Report post Posted June 5, 2003 But if Luke is the better hero, then the list should have him on it, higher than Han at that. I honestly don't know why this bugs me as much as it does. One of my favorite books of all times has a very similar argument, with characters that get barely a paragraph being listed as people's favorites while the main character (and hero of the piece) gets no love at all. To get back to Star Wars, the fan club magazine did a poll a while back on favorite characters. Han won (I'll deal with that) but Boba "I had three lines" Fett came in second, beating not only Luke but Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader. I was annoyed, to say the least. It is the same thing with LOTR where guys like Legolas are more popular than Frodo.
Guest Grand Slam Report post Posted June 5, 2003 Yes, but there is at least enough Legolas in the movies or the books so that I could see someone thinking they were the best character. That makes sense. But Boba Fett? Maybe 30 minutes out of 6 Hours of screen time and three lines? Makes no sense to me at all. However, this is really off topic, thus I apologize. Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted June 5, 2003 There is only one thing I am sure of after watching this program: Hannibal Lechter is WAY overrated.
Guest Goodear Report post Posted June 5, 2003 I disagree with Luke Skywalker being a mediocre hero. It was his story, so if the Original Trilogy is good, it is because we care about Luke Skywalker and what he wants to accomplish. Luke is the surrogate "us" in the movie, a normal kid who wants to be something better than what he is. I just can't believe that Han Solo, who is a supporting character, is a better hero than the main character. Oh man are you wrong there GS. Star Wars might have a been a story primarily about Vader and Luke, but you're dimishing the huge portions of the story that was devoted to Han first proving that he was actually a hero to begin with at the end of Star Wars as well as the great Han and Leia arc that passed through all the movies. Han sure as shooting isn't just a supporting character, he's integral to the story and provides a different point of view character than the naive Skywalker as a more savy and world wary character. That's like saying the lead always has to be the bigger influence and that's just plain wrong on a number of occasions.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2003 The more I think about the list, the less I like it. First off I can't believe they odn't have Tony Montana or Shaft? Plus for villains where is Clarence Boddicker? And, more importantly, where are the hillbillies from Deliverance?
