Guest commie_050 Report post Posted June 2, 2003 As another net fan sick of the WWE, I was thinking of getting into MMA. Local video stores have some UFC, and I'm considering purchasing the next Pride PPV. My question is, what are the best tapes to rent for an MMA novice, and will the PPV be worth it? Guest razazteca Report post Posted June 2, 2003 Can never go wrong with Ultimate Ultimate or Ultimate Japan. Just get the Ultimate Hits DVDs volume one and two, if you see any recent videos rent them if it is cheap. The old videos will be alot different than the current UFC as it was more of a BBJ vs the world who did not have a clue about what it was, and it was truely a no rules contest. Hair pulling, headbutting, striking while down was all acceptable back then, but now with all of the cross training MMA has become more of a ground grappling contest. Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 2, 2003 Either get the next Pride, or the Middleweight Grand Prix in August. Since the Pride show occurs next week in Japan but won't be airing on PPV until Friday, show reports should tell whether or not it's a good show, or a great show (with that card, I can't see it being a 'bad' show) In terms of Old UFC's, anything after UFC 10 is good as it will introduce you to some of the current fighters, they have weight divisions, and the styles become more advanced. Really, anything between UFC 13-20 is good. And of course there is www.sherdog.com where there are some excellent fighter montages available to get you more familiar with the top stars of MMA.
