Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2003 I basically needed a decent effects pedal that also had a chromatic tuner.... so when I had the money to spend, I bought a Zoom 505 II.... and it was the best 80 bucks I spent.... excellent sounds, totally programmable... I basically us it as a rock distortion box for when I practice to my CDs though I could use it for other things as well.... Now I have to get a bettwer amp.... even a 20 wat version of the Crate practice amp I have would be perfect.... Comments?
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted June 2, 2003 I have the first 505. Had it for years. I keep trying to replace it with something better. I always end up going back to it though. Back when I only had a crappy 4 track to record with I used it for everything. Used it's compression on the drums, used it's FX for vocals, used it for bass sometimes. Now that I record on Cakewalk I just use it for the guitar. I don't even use an amp anymore. Just the 505 plugged into the computer. I used to have a smaller Crate amp too. Best damn amp I ever had. I traded it in because I was going through the "bigger is better" phase. Now I've got some big ass stacked piece of crap I never use anymore sitting in the garage taking up space. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted June 2, 2003 I too bought a ghey ass Zoom 505 when they were hot shit. I think I traded it to someone for a couple cds, or possibly some cigarettes. I can't remember the name of the pedal since I've long since painted all over the thing, but I've got one of those distortion pedals that are gigantic and heavy, and made from soviet military electronic parts. It's fucking indestructable. I've also got a Cry-Baby Bass Wah.
Guest gangsteruwa Report post Posted June 2, 2003 I have a Cry Baby Wah and a Digitec Whammy Pedal (re-issue). My Cry Baby isn't hooked up now because I busted one of my chords and am to lazy to buy a new one. I don't over use the whammy pedal. There are settings to play two different notes simultaneously which I use sometimes when "soloing" and another two called detune (shallow/deep) that creates a weird sound, which I use a lot in clean. For distortion I just use the amps distortion which is pretty damn thick in one setting (excellent for death metal) and thin in the other setting (great for punk or older metal). I use an EMG 81 in the bridge and I have no neck pickup (I'll probably get a SD Jazz soon). It sounds like crap in clean unless I back off on the tone and use chorus (built in) or that detune feature on the whammy pedal and a fair amount of reverb (also built in). Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted June 2, 2003 I use the effects on my amp, and the footswitch has a button for the effects.

I kind of like the idea of using my computer to play my guitar through... Cakewalk is a dream. I basically have an entire recording studio in my bedroom. I just did a new CD which I'll whore out on here pretty soon once I get it uploaded. haha I had Guitarport for a week or two and resold it. It was fun to play around with for a few days and that was it. The way it's set up made it impossible to record with so it was a waste of time for me. Not to mention difficult. It took me a whole day to figure out how to install it. Even then it would quit working everytime I turned it off so I'd have to reboot my computer to knock it back on every time I wanted to use it. The setup was weird cause you have to hook it to both a USB input and the line in jack. So basically the guitar sound goes into the unit then into your computer where the software applies the FX then back to the unit and then back into your computer via the line in jack. So it goes around in this big circle. So when I tried to use it to record in Cakewalk, there was about a 5 second delay between me playing and me hearing it, so obviously I couldn't play along with what I was recording onto. I figured you'd never a pretty top of the line powerful computer to use Guitarport in conjunction with any kind of recording program. The other things, downloading patches, downloading music to play along with it, that's all fun for a while but after you get done checking it once or twice, there's not much else to do. It's basically a waste of time I thought because if you have a multi effects pedal, you can simply plug it into the line in jack on your computer and do the exact same thing Guitarport does. Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2003 That's true.. Now I'm going to have to look into Cakewalk... not to mention the price for GuitarPort was a little prohibitive for my budget right now... let me know about the CD, I would love to hear it.
Guest GeneMean Report post Posted June 4, 2003 Cakewalk is real easy to use. I've had a blast using it to record out any ideas that pop into my head. I'd recommend it. I use a Korg AX1500G multi-effects unit through a Fender amp. You can model a ton of different sounds with it and I can plug it direct to my soundcard for recording with Cakewalk. When I'm not plugged direct and want some great tube distortion and the sweetest chorus I think I've ever heard I add my old ADA MP-1 into the loop.
