Guest EMAXSAUN Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Hey, I got a USB 2.0 Hard Drive, 180 GIGS, and it is having some big problems. I have windows XP professional, and I just upgraded to usb 2.0. All of my other usb devices work with it. My hard drive though, works, but then when I copy files, it sometimes works, but after a while it will just hang, and I have to turn off the HD. I have tried so many different things, but I can't seem to get it to work. Any help?
Guest MrRant Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 You do have USB 2.0 USB Ports correct? The hardware?
Guest EMAXSAUN Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 Yes I do, I just bought a usb2.0/firewire card, and I use it for all my devices, digital cams, zip drive, ipod everything, excpet the hd doesnt work
Guest MrRant Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 You have the latest drivers for both the HD and the card?
Guest EMAXSAUN Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 well i have windows xp, so it said i didnt need to install anything, because i have updated to windows xp sp1. but is there a place to download newer usb 2.0 drivers? and the hard drive is just a generic enclosure, so i just downloaded what came on the cd.
Guest MrRant Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 Check the manufacturer websites of both the enclosure and the card. Check what the dates on their drivers are compared to what the dates are on your current ones (found in the Device Manager if you click Properties on the item and go to the Driver tab.) Worst comes to worst you exchange the case.
Guest EMAXSAUN Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 I have the newest of everything, except for the final driver for usb 2.0 from microsoft, but it was supossed to update automatically when i upgraded to sp1, but it only gave me the 1st version. Is there a place where i can get the latest microsoft xp usb 2.0 driver?
Guest MrRant Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 Try going to Windows Update and see if it gives it to you. If not do a search of support.microsoft.com.
Guest it-lenny Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 If the HD works after you reset it, and the USB card works fine with all other external devices, I would suspect the drive of being bad more then anything else. Empty the drive and take it back to the store....
Guest EMAXSAUN Posted June 10, 2003 Report Posted June 10, 2003 Lenny's Here!! , but i still can't figure this out.
