Guest razazteca Report post Posted June 5, 2003 I am watching the Travel Channel which has the World Poker Tour show, which is on location in La La land. This weeks episode is a celebrity tourny with several show business types thinking they are gramblers. Well in a big shock to me the owner of the NBA Lakers is in the tourny and is successful to boot. By only ante up and never raising bets and always folding before the flop he made it to the final table and the final game vs a pro poker player. So Jerry has just under $100 thousand vs the pro player Layne who has under a million are in the final game.
Guest Sandman9000 Report post Posted June 5, 2003 Sounds like he had a successful strategy, if it got him to the final 2. Who won?
Guest razazteca Report post Posted June 5, 2003 The game is still on. Jerry was dealt a pair of 10s vs the poker pro who had a bad hand. Jerry did not raise, the pro did raise and out bluffed Jerry with a weak hand! And this happened after Jerry won 2 hands in a row with one which he doubled his chips. Guest razazteca Report post Posted June 5, 2003 Jerry lost in the end, just like the playoffs in game 6. From what I have seen in the poker game can be translated into his regular business dealings with his Lakers. Jerry is a cheap person, not wanting to sign free agents, and when he does get lucky with a rookie he lets their contract expire because he does not want to raise his salary cap. In the NBA the Lakers make the playoffs as usual and in the poker game he made it to the final table but when it is crunch time Jerry folds or gets busted when trying to bluff. Yes sometimes he wins a game or two but he is unable to take the momentum and take risks to win the big one. Jerry tried to go "All In" the poker game but the poker pro much like the Coach of the Year, had a better hand. Ace, King beats Ace, Ten...............too little too late Jerry try again next year. Guest Bannable Offense Report post Posted June 5, 2003 I find it funny that when they hold poker tournaments, there's almost always an amateur player or two amongst the pro players that play poker for a living at the final table. Poker makes for one of the most unpredictable casino games with the element of psychology thrown in.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted June 5, 2003 So true, alot can be said about a poker player by watching them play the game. The whole game of poker is about psychology "Know when to hold 'em know when to fold" its all about understanding the opponet by the small gestures that they make in the game and the betting habits. Guest razazteca Report post Posted June 5, 2003 The money is a moot point, it's how he lost the game is the big issue.
