Back To The Future 4

Whispers begin again....

Cinecon.com is reporting that according to an article which appears in a UK magazine, Universal is looking to get the Back to the Future franchise going! Following the success of the DVD trilogy sales, there seems to be a heightened interest in doing another movie.

According to the report, the producer Bob Gale, director Robert Zemeckis, Michael J.Fox and Christopher Lloyd have all turned down the 4th movie. But that doesn't mean Universal isn't still interested. Universal is looking for help from Steven Spielberg. Spielberg has part say on whether another film were to occurr, and rumor has it he’s had brief talks to Universal about it.

An idea that is currently being thrown around is an animated movie.

Great none of the main people that were behind the first 3 want nothing to do with it but, Universal is still thinking about going ahead with it. Wonderful.

it's fake:

BTTF.com

First reported this morning by a scooper to Ain't It Cool News, supposedly the British magazine Hot Dog reports the following in their latest issue:

"With the success of the recently released DVD trilogy it’s no surprise to learn that Universal wants another Back to the Future movie. Producer Bob Gale has said no, as has Director Robert Zemeckis and even stars Michael J.Fox and Christopher Lloyd. So is there a saving grace? For Universal, yes, and it may come in the form of Steven Spielberg. Spielberg has part say whether another film ever sees the light of day, and rumour has it he’s had briefs talks to Universal about it – even suggesting alternatives if the original cast and the original creative team don’t return. One of those options is to do an animated version of the film – based on the cartoons that spawned from the original series – which will keep Universal happy long enough for the original BTTF team to change their numbers."

It's an interesting report, but quite untrue.  I've been tracking BTTF4 rumors for over a decade now, and in almost every single instance, these type rumors almost always originate in Great Britain for some reason.  Aside from the fact that this is yet another unfounded rumor with no factual basis for its claims, basically everyone associated with the films have stated that there will be no further films.

Almost exactly a year ago, Steven Spielberg told SCI FI Wire that aside from the next installment in the Indiana Jones series, he does not plan to produce sequels to many of his most popular films. "There'll never be another Back to the Future," Spielberg told reporters at the Saturn Awards ceremony in Los Angeles.

Not satisfied just to simply not believe the bogus report I found myself reading on some of my favorite websites this morning, including Dark Horizons and Cinema Confidential who also received the report from the same scooper, I quickly fired off an email to Bob Gale for an official statement.

"This is the first I've heard about it," the famed writer/producer simply stated.

Given the fact that I'm unable to even verify that the magazine even printed the article at this point (the publication's website — www.HotDogMagazine.com — has been offline all day), I think it's safe to assume that this one will quickly fizzle out since there's no hint of proof verifying the article's claims.

Well, boy my face is red. But, it's good to see Spielberg has some sense.

Thank God. I can't stand to sit back and watch them butcher a great series.

Yeah, it would make no sense at all to do another one. Especially without the original cast. And an animated version is a fucking stupid idea.

Amen, brother

And I give that a second Amen. A Back to the Future movie with none of the originals is just a bad,BAD idea.

What you do is go 'next generation' and build the movie around Doc Brown's sons Jules and Verne and maybe convince Lloyd and Fox to do cameos. That would suck though, but that's how you would do it without the pricipals involved.

Back To The Future without Fox or Lloyd would be like Dumb and Dumber without Carrey and Daniels...wait a minute!
