Major League Wrestling: Underground! (6-6-03)

- Taped From Orlando, FL

- Your Host as always is and will be for a long time, Joey Styles.

- First, we have some pre-taped footage of the Extreme Horsemen (Steve Corino, Simon Diamond, and C.W. Anderson) paying a camera man to follow them around much like the Original Horsemen did when they beat the crap out of Dusty Rhodes. We see Terry Funk arriving at the building and so we got some verbal arguments, in which Funk says the only thing they have ridden is each other. We all know what happens now. The Horsemen exit their limo and proceed to beat down Funk, busting him open in and outside the arena. For those who don't know, Steve Corino has a thing for beating up legends. At their show in December he beat Dusty Rhodes in a triple threat match, has his eyes on Terry Funk, and the Extreme Horsemen want to take out Steve Williams. They leave Funk laid out a bloody mess on the outside and finally leave. Good Segment to hype their Barbed Wire Rope match on June 20.

- Joey Styles welcomes us back to the Tabu arena in Orlando, FL and hypes the Funk versus Corino altercation in two weeks. He promises an update on Terry Funk's condition before the broadcast ends. This week, Jerry Lynn takes on Paul London, and the Global Tag Team Championship Finals take place as Dr. Death & P.J. Friedman battle it out with C.W Anderson & Simon Diamond.

[commercial break]

- MLW Underground taping will take place at the war memorial in Ft. Lauderdale, FL on June 20th. $10 for General Admission. Ringside seats are SOLD OUT! MLW Hybrid Hell is coming! Featuring Terry Funk versus Steve Corino, Mike Awesome faces the MLW World Champion Satoshi Kojima for the title, plus the debut of Michael Shane!

- Joey Styles pimps the 1wrestling.com website.

- Jerry Lynn Vs. Paul London:

This is Paul Londons MLW Debut. Jerry Lynn is still winless since the MLW began, as he has lost on all of their TV taping, and eventually aligned himself with The Fallen Angel, Christopher Daniels. No real buildup for this match since it's London's first appearance on MLW. Joey Styles is of course, going solo at the commentary booth. Lynn brushes off a handshake and takes London to the mat. lockup and they trade off go behind waist-locks, which London wins, to a chorus of boos. Crowd is behind Lynn all the way here. London with an armbar, which is reversed by Lynn followed by a hip toss. Lockup and Lynn with a hammerlock, and London reverses that now. Lynn reverses back and London takes him down with a hip toss and a Japanese arm drag. Styles notes London has only been a pro for three years. Lynn with a shove, and London gives him one back. Lynn with a boot to the midsection and a scoop slam. London mule kicks Lynn off him and nails an arm drag, Lynn does the same but gets caught with a head scissors take over and London sends him out with a somersault drop-kick! Nice wrestling sequence and here is Christopher Daniels to consult Lynn.

[Commercial Break]

We're back in the ring and Jerry Lynn has a modified surfboard hold applies to London, and continues to beat the crap out of London with forearm shots for two. Stomach-buster by Lynn gets two again. Daniel urges on Lynn who continues hammering London. London with some stiff chops but Lynn ends that with a boot to the midsection and a few chops of his own. Lynn stomps a mud-hole on London to "Jerry" chants. Lynn with a scoop slam and applies the bow and arrow submission hold. London falls on top of Lynn for two, but gets caught with a tilt-o-whirl back breaker off an Irish whip for two. Lynn goes back to work on Londons back and applies a modified camel clutch. London works his way back to his feet but Lynn puts him down with a running knee lift and a spinning DDT for two! Lynn drives the knee into Londons back to Daniels' liking. London back up and nails a series of elbows to Lynns midsection but is thrown down by the hair. Lynn with a snapmare, but London nails an enziguri, and both men are down again! London with some forearm shots and nails another awesome drop-kick followed by a spinning heel kick. Leaping clothesline by London gets two! Lynn back up now for a suplex but that's reversed and London nails a twisting neck breaker for two! London goes to the top rope but Lynn recovers and sunset flips London of the top for two again! Lynn calls for the cradle piledriver, but London reverses, but Lynn reverses again and nails a modified F5 for two!!! Lynn sets London on the top turnbuckle. London sends Lynn to the mat and nails an AWESOME Shooting star press! Daniels pulls the referee outside to break the count, so London with a pescado to Daniels! Shoulder block to Lynn but a sunset flip is blocked, with Daniels helps for two, but the referee breaks the momentum, and London reverses with his own for the three count and win at 13:33! Daniels hits the ring afterwards and spears London. Lynn nails the cradle piledriver to send a message to London, and they trash talk to him as we go to a break.

This was a pretty good match compared to a few of the last weeks matches, including a nice wrestling sequence to start, good build in the middle, and a hot ending. ***1/2 Paul London's SSP looked great, too bad that didn't get the winning pinfall.

- Joey Styles goes over the previous match of Paul London picking up his first MLW win over former heavyweight champion Jerry lynn, then sends it to the locker room.

- Jerry Lynn & Christopher Daniels are in the locker room, and of course, are not to happy about losing to Paul London. Lynn throws a fit by beating up the garbage can and runs into the bathroom and does some more damage off camera. That was kind of pointless.

- We now go to Paul London who offers a rematch to Jerry Lynn, in a Young Lions Challenge, 2 out of 3 falls, starting at Hybrid Hell. He doesn't say much otherwise.

- Joey Styles runs down last weeks match where Raven defeated C.M. Punk. Punk offered the challenge for a rematch, and Raven had accepted, and we go to C.M. Punk. C.M. Punk brings up how Raven had substance abuse problems, and brings up how he is drug-free, alcohol-free, etc, etc, and says nothing otherwise of note.

- Joey Styles mentions to Kenzo Sazuki will be making his MLW debut at Hybrid Hell, against Norman Smiley, according to MLW.com. Several representatives from Japanese promotions will also be on hand for action for Hybrid Hell. Styles mentions Funk versus Corino again, as well as the beating from earlier, so we go back to earlier tonight with the Horsemen Cam.

- Steve Corino is apparently at the Philadelphia International Airport, where he has found barbed wire. He doesn't think its normal for two wrestlers to be wrapped around barbed wire. Steve Corino runs down how long it took him and Funk to win several championships, that being the ECW World and NWA World Championship Belts. Corino admits he is afraid of the barbed wire, but he is ready for Ft. Lauderdale. Corino is willing to put his life on the line to prove that Funk is no longer the legend he use to be. He may walk out in a lot of pain, but he will walk out the victor.

- Joey Styles introduces a flashback from last week from the Mike Awesome versus Masato Tanaka match when Awesome powerbombed Masato over the top rope through a table at ringside, winning the match via knockout. Awesome cuts a non-sensical rambling promo for Hybrid Hell. Styles says that next week we will see some of Sabu versus La Parka. He says Bill Alphonso, Sabu's manager, is still out of action thanks to La Parka. Also we STILL have to crown the Global Tag Champs tonight.

- Flashbacks for the Tag Team Title Tournament. Steve Williams & P.J. Friedman defeated Jimmy Yang & Mike Sanders Williams pinned Yang with a release back suplex. C.W Anderson & Simon Diamond defeated Los Maximos in the other semifinals match when C.W caught Jose off the top rope with a spine buster.

- Joey Styles mentions that Michael Shane, the nephew of Shawn Michaels (I don't know, he said it) will be making his debut in MLW at the War Memorial Stadium. Francine walks in on Shane washing up, and that's it. Styles hints that Shane may be managed by Francine. Joey switches over to the Junior-Heavyweights Division, which includes, Super Crazy, Dick Togo, Masato Tanaka, Los Maximos, and Fuego Guerrero. He hopes that the rumors of a MLW Junior-Heavyweight Champion will be crowned sometime in the near future.

- MLW-Global Tag Team Championship Tournament Finals:

"Dr. Death" Steve Williams & P.J. Friedman Vs. C.W. Anderson & Simon Diamond:

The Extreme Horsemen head to the outside to grab some chairs before the other challengers come out, and we find out why, as Diamond slams a chair into Friedmans knee and Anderson gives him the smash mouth. Williams hammers on both men while Friedman is out. Clotheslines to everyone followed by some slams. Powerslam to Diamond gets two. Williams hammers on Anderson, and Diamond from behind with a school boy for two. Williams hammers both of them some more and nails a double clothesline. Williams goes for the Oklahoma Stampede, but gets double reverse leg swept by the Horsemen. Anderson with a cross over armbar on the Doctor. Williams tries battling back but Diamond comes in and hammers Williams. Hard whip to the buckle gets two for Simon. Anderson back in and he pummels Williams now. Friedman makes it to his corner of the ring, a bloody mess. Diamond with a snap suplex and float over cover for two. Williams starts fighting back again and gets nailed by Anderson with a spine buster. Friedman makes the blind tag but gets a chair super-kicked into his face, followed by a double super-kick and Diamond covers for the win at 3:15. That was short. Williams throws a chair at the new champions as the show comes to an end.

That was pretty quick to decide new Champions. It was basically Dr. Death being pounded on until the right time to have Friedman get pinned with ease. 1/2* Because it was pretty quick and inoffensive, and because I mark out for Dr. Death.

Overall: This show was filled entirely with hype for their upcoming Hybrid Hell show. The first match was pretty good and had a lot of time put into it, but the broadcast was dead for the next 40 minutes, with a three minute squash as the finals for the long awaited Global Tag Team Title crowning. Next week we got Sabu versus La Parka, so until then...
