What's so great about MPEG files?

I dunno whats so great about MPEGs, except now I'm hearing that you can play them on a DVD player when you burn them to CD? Is this true? If so, is there any special way I should go about doing this (i.e. run files through a special program before burning to CD)? Thanks in advance.

Just put them in NERO as a VCD.

 

Mpeg is just a VCD.
