TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2003 I have heard a few opinions on this. Some love it. Some think it's average saying the first 1/3 sucks, the 2/3 is good and 3/3 is decent. Some just don't get why it's praised. I consider it a classic and one of my personal favorite movies from the 70's(and a very deserving Best Picture winner). De Niro is excellent, Walken puts in his best performance ever and the "one shot" scene is powerful. What does everyone else think of the Deer Hunter? Guest Y2BigJ Report post Posted June 9, 2003 I just saw this for the 1st time last week, while slightly dragged out it is a good movie made great by DeNiro and Walken's peformance. At times a very very intense movie.
Guest JAxlMorrison Report post Posted June 9, 2003 Fantastic character development, especially in the so called "boring" first 1/3. Walken and Deniro are wonderful, especially Robert. Just an all around great flick, especially because of the very intense scenes. I don't even think I breathed during the scene where they were P.O.W.S
Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted June 10, 2003 Really great movie, you have to be in the mood to really watch a movie though. As said, the performances by Dinero and Walken really make the movie and their is some very subtle character development throughout helped by a solid script and precise direction. If you're a shallow movie watcher, then you probably won't be able to get into it and understand it's powerful beauty.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2003 I think Deacon nailed it. For Deer Hunter you need patience. I love the first 1/3 which some people find boring and it adds a lot to the characters which helps them seem more real than the usual people in "war changes you" characters. And like I said that "one shot" scene near the end is POWERFUL.
