Different genre refrences in other genres

Recommended Posts

Basically these are things are like, references to other movies, TV shows, or other forms of entertainment that aren't neccessarilly germaine to the movie/tv show they are appearing in.

Case in point, the various Star Wars/Jaws references in Kevin Smith's "View Askeverse" films

Probably one of my favorite ones is in "Reservoir Dogs" where Mr. Orange (Tim Roth) is describing Lawrece Tierney's character as being "The Thing! The Mother fucker looks just like The Thing!" Obviously a reference to the Fantastic Four comic book character.

Well the very next shot you see Mr. Orange fumbling through some stuff on a table and one of the items is a The Thing action figure.

if this were a contest, jean-luc godard would win it easily. in 'pierrot le fou' alone he made references to 'johnny guitar', 'pepe le moko', pierre-auguste renoir, diego velasquez, sam fuller, raymond chandler, joseph conrad, william faulkner, bertolt brecht, musicals, road movies, film noir, beethoven, balzac, and a bunch of others that i can't even think of. if you played a drinking game called "count the references" during any godard movie, you'd be plastered in 20 minutes.
