Guest HBK16 Report post Posted June 12, 2003 Ok this has been kind of a dream for me and I finally have the money to di it and at the perfect time too. This saturday wil be me and my girlfriend's six month anniversary. Then Sunday I am going to a special dinner with my father. Its the kind of dinner where everyone is showing up in Benz. Its a very important dinner for me and my father. Ok so here is my problem. I have been kind of talking it over with my dad for the past months and he is finally letting me. Firday I want to go to an exotic car rental place and rent a Ferrari F355 Spyder. I am only 18 and yo uhave to be 25 years old to rent the car. So the part where I finally convinced my dad was that he put the car under his name but I pay for it. He picks it up Saturday morning and I get it Saturday for me and my girlfriend to go where ever we want (in the city limits) then Sunday night I drive my dad to the dinner. It is going to be almost $2,000 with everything paid. Insurance and the deposit and all. Ok now here is the problem. Do these cars have meters to see if you break the speed limit? Im not going to drive 150mph down the street with an exotic rental car all night but I would like to take it for a "test run" just once. Theres problem number 1. Number 2, what happens if they were to find out that I was driving it? Like what if I get pulled over and Im not even suppose to be driving it? I dont even want to know what happens if I get in an accident or a flat tire and the car has to be towed. I would take my Escalade but I am having new wheels and a sound system put in this weekend so theres not way I can use it. So if anyone can help me answer these questions I would appreciate it. The guy is saving the Ferrari for my dad already but no deal is closed yet. HOWEVER, if she loves red and convertibles that much, get the Ferarri. Just don't hotdog in it. I know it's hard NOT to do in something like that, but if you want to open it up, just do it somewhere very isolated. Oh, and don't take any race offers unless you're in that isolated area. Besides, they probably acknowledge the fact that you're going to haul-ass, so they find comfort in the fact that you're paying for it if you screw up. On a side note, is the Jag a v12? Because if so, then I'd be interested to know the literage on the engine. I mean, I know the Ferraris are only like 6.5L, so they make most of their power in High RPM range (4-5K for a V12). But one of 4 things are going to happen: 1) You wreck the car and get into HUGE trouble (and possibly worse) 2) Someone has an accident and you get involved (and get into a lot of trouble and possibly worse) 3) You get pulled over and busted by the cops, which will get you and your father in trouble 4) You manage to pull this off.. 1-3 are way more likely than #4. And the first three are assuming that you are with your girlfriend and not your dad. If you make it through the first night, then you'll probably pull this off. Im going to go with 3, since A) a sports car will stand out like a sore thumb and B) A sports car with 2 teenagers in it will stand out like Andre the Giant at a midget convention. If you do even 1 small thing wrong and a cop notices, your ass is grass since you aren't supposed to be driving that car. Trust me, as much is this is a dream of yours, Id wait a couple years...theres a reason why you have to be 25 to rent them. You might think your father is the coolest person in the world for allowing/helping you doing this, but if you get in any trouble, you'll regret it for the rest of your life since your father will get in just as much trouble for letting you drive it. If you have got 2 grand burning a hole in your pocket so bad, rent a less exotic car and buy your girlfriend a nice 6 month anniversary present. Unless she's some car freak, I would be willing to bet she'd be more appreciative of a nice piece of jewelry than a ride in a ferrari around town for one night. It isn't like you are going to have that car for more than the weekend, and its going toi end up sending the wrong message to your girlfriend... Just my 2 cents. I keep looking outside the window though cuz ever once and a while someone comes up and looks at it and I dont want anyone fuckign with it. Me and my dad have been taking turns with it all day. Its been fun. I live by an Indian Reservation and that means, one long ass road with no cars, no nothing, just sand, shrubs, and casinos. Me and my dad have been taking it up to like 80. I took it out without him and got it to almost 140. I am going to my girlfriend's house in about half an hour. She has no idea I am showing up with a Ferrari. I am friends with most of her neighbors now so I am sure it will be a few hours before we can actually leave. Take everyone out for a drive first. Damn bastards! Shes not that big of cars fan (actually I always talk about cars with her and she hates it) but she LOVES convertibles. And my prediction was true. It must have been atleast an hour before we left. Almost every neighbor wanted a ride. We drove around for a bit. It ussually takes us a while to figure out what we exactly want to do. So the first thing we did was go see a movie because she really wanted to see Dumb and Dumberer. Bad idea. That movie sucked. Of course I valeted my car for $4. The valet actually asked me if I stole the car. What a dick. After the movie, diner. Valeted it again. But this time no one was really impressed because we were in the richest city in Arizona and its very commom to see Lamborghinie's and other exotics everywhere. By then it was around 10 so we went to a club that was close by Arizona State University. We got back around 2am I think. And the drive home was awesome because there was no one in the freeways so I managed to get it up to around 140mph. What a ride. Tonight is my big dinner but there wont be any exciting stories so I wont tell you about it. But I have the car all to myself today. So far I have put a little bit over 550 miles on it. Which I will do now before I take it out again. My new highest speed is now a little over than 155. The top speed is 175 but I dont have enough straight road or enough guts to take it that high. I think I will tow it till I get 1 street away from the restuarant and then drive it to the front and then tow it back home. I still have to focus on my goal of getting it to 170 mph.
