Guest TheGame2705 Report post Posted June 13, 2003 Now this isn't going to be sarcastic at all and it'll be somewhat nerdy but it's the best way I can explain. The best way I can visualize this backstory meaning something special was in my VPW2 fed with Liger and Delfin. Liger had defeated all the juniors and was the champ for about 7 months now. He had already beaten Delfin but Delf was the closest to beating him so he got a rematch a few months down the line. Anyway the match was kickass. It lasted about 25 minutes or something and there were alot of close nearfalls. I tried for the Liger Bomb but it got reversed for what I thought would be a three into a hurricanrana. Eventually Delfin won the match with a standing tornado DDT. Later on there was a big tag match with Liger and Busa vs. Delfin and Ultimo. Delf got the pin when he rolled up Liger with the hurricanrana after an L-bomb reversal. Same move that almost put him away last time. Next time they fought it was Liger and KaShin vs. Delfin and I think Kanemoto and Delfin won again with the reversal. When they had the singles rematch, I wasn't going to even try to go for the Liger Bomb or I knew more than likely I'd job thus one of my biggest and best moves was rendered useless. I was winning until I went to go for the win but instead of hitting the bomb I tried for a shooting star, I came down on the knees and got pinned. All the matches were pretty good by themselves but when you knew the whole story it made you understand why Liger lost the last time they faced. His finisher was removed and thus he was lost. Now I'm pretty sure this is what everyone was refering to and I got that but I thought the match should have been good by itself. I think it wasn't so much the ringwork that made me not like the match but the fact that it bored me to tears. No one played to the crowd. No one gave me a reason to get behind them. I also had to see the same four people go at it twice in I think 2 hours. Overall I think I'd definitely give AJPW another chance but one thing I have to clear up is: I do not think Misawa sucks. Obviously he had to have something to become a legend. I don't like him for the following reasons: a.)In the matches I've seen with him, I don't know how else to put it but I've seen him get a volley of kicks in the face, get backdropped, get up and hit the forearm. I understand being tough and getting that second wind, but I think I saw him get like his seventh wind. b.)His politics annoy me. He beat Takayama I think a month after he won the title and was getting really over successfully injuring him. That pissed me off. He had to take the title off the guy to save face because he was supposed to lose to Nakanishi, but how many people has Nakanishi jobbed to already in big matches? Why couldn't it be non-title if he had to lose? Why the fuck did he have to injure him to? Not only that but his whole powerplay in 2000 left an extremely sour taste in my mouth. It was Austin-esque in that he's bringing everything to hell if he doesn't get his way. Hopefully I've garnered some understanding.

Misawa didn't want the NOAH top guy (GHC champ) to job to an NJPW guy in a token match because it demeans his title somewhat. Misawa was just protecting his belt. Most, if not all other promotions would do this as well. How does it look when your champion jobs to an upper midcard guy? Misawa still values the belt (a trait he got from Baba) and wasn't about to let it's stature get diminished by letting a freelancer (Takayama) job to a person who isn't a part of his company. Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted June 13, 2003 Misawa still values the belt (a trait he got from Baba) I have to question this statement DA. Who did Takayama take the GHC from again? Funny you bring up that match Game as I just finished watching it for the first time (I've been meaning to buy the tape for the last six months). I thought the match itself came out okay, but the ending left a bad taste in my mouth. Misawa went over with the Running Elbow right after he kicked out of the Everest German Suplex. Misawa usually uses the Running Elbow when he's fighting the mid card nobodies. He made Takayama look pretty weak. I can agree with his reasoning for wanting the GHC off Takayama, but I think all Takayama jobbing to Nakanishi would have led to was a GHC title match where Takayama could have gotten his win back. What's funny about the whole situation is that I spent the whole G-1 Climax saying Takayama's huge push was a big suck up to Misawa to put the GHC on Takayama.
