I thought the ending was a bit rushed so the the death wasn't really given much time to sink in and was pretty unemotional. Still 9/10 but Prisoner of Azkaban is the best.

I just got through reading it about twenty minutes ago and wow. It was excellent. Heres my thoughts on it:

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

Loved how through the hype you knew someone was going to die and every few chapters they made it seem like someone other than sirus was going to kick it. Also liked the interaction between Harry and Cho had me laughing when i was reading it and Hermionie telling Harry about what he should of said was gold. I also agree with Fred and Georges exit kicking so much ass it was unbelieveable, as well as them using the ghosts to a better extent in this book. McGonnigal came across as a much more likeable character in this book. One more thing Draco needs more about him, i mark for Malfoy.

I think the theory that Kahran proposed on the first page regarding the death of Lucius Malfoy can really be put into practice in the sixth book.

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

Voldemort is pissed as a muthafucka that Lucius and the other death eaters couldn't recover the glass orb that contained the prophecy so he offs him and the others, with the exception of Beatrix Lestrange. She needs to have a showdown w/ Lupin or Harry in Book Six.

Just finished it. It was brilliant, absolutely brilliant. I was spellbound throughout the end and I found myself silenting marking when

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

Harry was looking at Dumbledores visage in the prophecy and then Neville mouthed Dumbledore and the real one was there. He then proceeded to bring the awesome. I loved it.

I also loved the end, and I must say here is what I expect...

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

- Killer showdown between Harry and Beatrix Lestrange in 6. When all is lost for Harry, Neville makes the save...in revenge for his parents. Neville withstood the CRUCIO!!

-Harry and Voldemort duel to the death in 7, but I don't think Dumbledore will be killed. He already proved that he could own Voldemort. He will most likely die of old age or not die at all. He's just too powerful to be outright killed.

-The thing Harry has in spades but voldemort fears the most, aka Harry's secret weapon, is most likely bravery, heart and compassion for others. Which keeps him alive and makes him more powerful than Voldemort will ever be. Witness Dumbledore getting very happy that Harry was still feeling human emotions.

ANYONE who has read any of the first few, read this book. It was just simply brilliant. However, one thing I noticed...how is this still being written for children? There were some words I had to think about, and I'm a senior in college who is currently studying for the GRE...which has a pretty exhaustive vocab section. I recognized some of them as Kaplan difficult GRE words, in a book written to children.

Good for Rowling, get the foot in the door with the children market. Write in such a way to hook everyone....

Amazing. Can't wait for 6...although I might have kids of my own by the time it comes out.

What's with Luna's reactions to Ron? I think she's smitten with Weasley myself...

I thought that this book was a ***** book! It was one of my favorites except for the Goblet of Fire. I thought that book kicked arse with the whole Quidditch World Cup and all. I just didn't like a couple things in there. I could actually feel all of the feelings that Harry felt. The jealousy, the pain, the hurt, and the anger. I loved to read this book and recommend it to all!

Just finished reading it now, the death was underwhelming but the book was a good enough read without it.

Oh and Luna was probably the best thing about the book.

Well, if what Luna said is true then the dead person's spirit lives on behind the veil at the Ministry of Magic.

As much as I enjoyed Luna, this book was all about Neville.

While I still prefered Luna, Neville was really built in the book.

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

Just imagine if Neville was the actual one who can kill Voldermort...

That will never happen. Children the world over would revolt because Harry is the hero. I wouldn't like it very much either. I mean, it's a twist but it's not a very smart one and i don't think Rowling has the guts to do something that daring.

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

Neville should be the one to kill Belaxtrix, even though it seems that Harry will be out for revenge because of Sirius.

I agree, somewhat. I think he will save Harry's life, but Harry will finish the deed.

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

I get the weird vibe that Rowling is building up Neville becauze he is going to be the one who gets killed out of the Hogwarts gangs. At first I figured it might have been Hermoine or Cho but Neville is a pretty good choice given his odd connection with Harry and Voldy.

Just finished reading it, and here are my thoughts:

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

--The action sequence that lasted through chapters 34-36 was SUPERB. I was captivated more than any actual action in the series thus far, with the exception of the ending of Goblet of Fire.

--Sirius dying wasn't quite right. The WAY he died was pretty lame.

--Rowling did a very nice job of making us HATE Umbridge, then giving her comeuppance. Very satisfying.

--I loved the climax of the Harry/Cho relationship (I actually jumped up and cheered for the kiss and the point in the halls where Harry chases her down to ask her out), but I didn't like how it resolved itself. I mean, true, they're young, so the crushes probably weren't that deep, but he'd been pining over her for 2 years before they went out. You wouldn't think things would fall apart for him and her that easily. Oh well. I wonder who the next love interest will be?

--I did NOT love the complete lack of continuation of Ron's secret crush on Hermione. I think the only things in the book that got anywhere near it was when she kissed him on the cheek before his first Quidditch match and one instance of Ron being jealous of her writing to Krum . It was ALL OVER Goblet of Fire. What happened?

--The ending of this one wasn't at all up to snuff for me compared to Goblet of Fire. No real cliffhangers or anything, just basically "the sides are set, the lines are drawn, there is nothing else that needs to be explained. Things are as they should be, we're just waiting for Voldemort's first move." GoF's ending was SUCH an awesome cliffhanger. It literally made you NEED the next book, and need it NOW. OotP's ending was satisfying enough to make me say "okay, I can wait another year or two for the next one." Not that that's a bad thing, I just miss the unquenched thirst thing GoF left me with.

--They never addressed whether Harry's lifetime Quidditch ban was going to be removed or not. Heck, his Firebolt is still at Hogwarts. Intentional unresolved thread, or minor plot detail oversight?

--I will sincerely miss Fred and George's presence at Hogwarts. Sad to see them leave, but I loved watching them escape.

Having just read these books, I am seriously wondering how these book (as previously mentioned) can still be marketed for young kids.

More specifically, when and if they attempt to make movies out of GoF and OotP, they are going to be pretty serious movies, not to mention lengthy...
