Making a top 10 list of Undertaker matches should be more of a challenge. vs. Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin vs. Vader - IYH 1997 vs. Bret Hart - Summerslam 1997 vs. Shawn Michaels - Bad Blood 1997 vs. Triple H - Wrestlemania 17 Damn, this was harder than thought it would be. HIAC: Taker vs. Mankind (KOTR '98) I've never seen Taker vs. Bret from One Night Only, because I can never find a decent copy other than the chopped up WWF Home Video version. I put Taker vs. Mankind HIAC on there because of the entertainment. It really depends on what you're looking for, but that match had the spots and entertainment. Guest JaKyL25 Report post Posted June 30, 2003 The reason everything listed is 1996 and after is because prior to Foley's arrival, Undertaker spent most of his time battling the big-slow-behemoth-cartoonish-heels-of-the-month. How is he going to have a good match if he's feuding with the Million Dollar Corporation/Mabel for a whole year over an Urn? King of the Ring '96 was the first time I ever sat up and said, "Whoa, Undertaker has some potential for entertaining matches. Who would have thunk?" #1--Taker vs. HBK, Badd Blood '97 Best Hell in the Cell ever STILL. What a tale these two spun that night. Bravo. That's all I feel like listing. I've never seen the fabled One Night Only match. Does anyone else feel that 2002 was actually Taker's best year ever as far as match quality goes? Sure, there were some HUGE stinkers (Austin @ Backlash, HHH@ KotR), but his matches with RVD, Flair, Angle/Rock, and HitC vs. Lesnar were all pretty decent, and while not technically good, his "Big Legend vs. Plucky Underdog" stuff with Maven and Jeff Hardy was compelling to watch, at least for me. Guest godthedog Report post Posted June 30, 2003 1997 easily tops 2002 for taker. the man not only had MUCH better opponents (austin, bret, shawn, vader), but he worked harder than i've ever seen him work, before or since. between canadian stampede, summerslam, ground zero, one night only, final four & badd blood, it's one of the best years that almost ANY wwf wrestler has had not named angle, hart, michaels, austin, helmsley or benoit. the sid match is a pox on humanity, but...come on, it's sid. Still never seen that One Night Only match though. Why was HBK vs. Bulldog from that PPV an extra on a DVD but not this match? Because Davey's dead? I think I still maintain my position, though it has kind of altered. Though he had more really good matches in '97, I still think that he had more decent matches week-to-week in '02 (Kinda like Angle except with a **1/2 handicap). Unless you can cite a bunch of free TV stuff from '97 that's completely eluding me at the moment. One thing we can safely say--Even in his good years, the Undertaker match at King of the Ring will blow chunks. But then so will everybodys. What WAS it with that PPV?
