Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 15, 2003 The United States title will be returning to WWE Land...As the equalivilent of Raw's I.C title for Smackdown. Smackdown is LOADED with potentital suitors for the title... It is likely that Since Raw did a Battle Royale...Smackdown will do something different and go with another Tournament... But hey...Who doesn't love a tournament right? BRACKETS RULE! Anyways... The question to be ask here is...Do you put it on an established performer that will make the title a little more credible I.E Benoit or Eddy... Do you put it on an SUPERSTAR in the making... I.E Cena or an up and coming big name player already proven to be a good carrier of an title division...I.E Matt Hardy? Let's Go ahead and say Smackdown goes for a 16 man Tournament...with the final four to cultimate at Vengence...the first ever Smackdown exclusive PPV... The Bracket would be interchangeable as long as you have the right four guys making it that far... I would have Rhyno cause Benoit to lose inavertaly and thus snapping BENOIT enough to screw Rhyno outta his match and turning heel because that is what Heyman wants to do. So at least use the tournament to seperate these two guys... and let's think about it... There are really only TWO options here Option A Matt Hardy. We all know Hardy has impressed the boss and that isnt easy to do...So it could be concieveable that McMahon will want Hardy to carry the reinstated US title because he has faith in him. Matt showed he can be an great old school heel with a slight modern twist and he practitally revived the dying CW title on his own...so he has that going for him. Option B John Cena Let's Face it. CENA is going to be a SUPERSTAR. He already has Kurt Angle raving about him as well as Lesnar...He has already made his presence known in the marketing scheme and creative...proving them he was able to connect to the audience and knew well enough to tap into the Throwback craze... John Cena has been a GREAT heel but he shown he can EASILY get the crowd behind him because he offers an different fresh attitude...a sing along catchphase and a good look along with his treadmark horns which is rapidly getting to the DX CHOP/ NWO sign level of popularity. Either Way...Those two would be instant stars for the United States title and would revive the mid-card scene... Guest Downhome Report post Posted June 15, 2003 I might just have Matt Hardy pick up the title if I was in charge, to keep him looking strong and like he's "climbing the ladder". I'd bump Benoit up to the World Title with Brock/Angle/TBS, and maybe hold Rhyno back to feud with Matt Hardy, unless of course I put him in the Benoit/World Title angle as well. John Cena is another good one, but I'd give it to Matt Hardy first just to keep him looking really strong. I wish TBS would become an MF'er, that would be gold. It gives TBS a chance to do something without being totally in the spotlight, and we could get some funny as hell moments from it. At the end of most of Matt's matches, Matt, or the other MF'ers could distract the ref as TBS comes into the ring and chokeslams Matt's opponent, leading to the win. I wouldn't let it happen all the time, it'd just be a sort of mini-angle which I think could be cool. Seeing Matt about "defeating" everyone when it was really TBS who did a lot of the work could be great, and they can all deny that TBS ever gets involved. Maybe TBS could get jellous one day, and take on Matt himself, blah blah blah, I'm just saying there is tons of stuff you could do to make it both funny and entertaining. Have Guerrero or Benoit have a nice long run to put the belt over as the #2 belt on SD!. After that, either Cena or Matt could beat the veterans clean, the veterans move to the World Title scene, and the U.S. Title scene revolves around Cena, Hardy, Rhyno, and probably Team Angle. Depending on who would win, I'd have it be Hardy vs either Rhyno or Benoit with Rhyno/Benoit costing the other the Title. Here's my brackets... Round 1(8 Man) John Cena vs Rikishi(Cena wins via DVD) Billy Gunn vs Chris Benoit(Benoit wins via Crippler Crossface) Matt Hardy vs Bill Demott(Hardy wins via Twist of Fate) Rhyno vs A-Train(Rhyno wins via Gore) Semi-Finals(4 Man) John Cena vs Chris Benoit(Benoit wins via Crippler Crossface) Rhyno vs Matt Hardy(Matt wins via Benoit accidentally nailing Rhyno with a steel chair) Finals Matt Hardy vs Chris Benoit(Hardy wins after Rhyno Gores Benoit when Matt moves out of the way) Thus this can set up the Benoit/Rhyno breakup feud....both Hardy and Cena are heels however so one of them would probably need to turn face if they were to feud over the US Title Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

A Benoit heel turn makes most sense if he is going after a face Kurt Angle & Brock Lesnar. With this belt he'd have nothing to do after the Rhyno feud (because the other big face at this level, Edge, is hurt) and then we get to trading the title around every month which is what killed the credibility of the midcard titles in the first place.
