Nutty Professor 1 was done in '96. Metro wasn't released until 1997. I remember because for my 16th birthday, we rented out the cinema (the movie was "Ransom", btw) and Metro's trailer was shown before it. I don't know if Metro bombed per say, but I think like IDRM said, a lot of people expected something like BHC and got a straight up actioner. I still liked it though, as Murphy is one of my favorite comedians, and I have most of his films.

Didn't know that about Metro. Still seems Daddy Day Care is a hit and his career is alive and well again. So let's hope he goes back to his roots and makes an R-rated movie where he could let loose again.

BTW am I the only who thought Eddie was great in I Spy?

I think I Spy was pretty good. As much thanks to Owen Wilson as Eddie though.

I can't believe nobody said Delirious, and only one person said RAW. Those along with Coming To America are his best.

Mom: Give your Aunt Bunny a kiss.

Eddie:(Crying) NO! Aunt Bunny got a mustache!

Classic!

If you read the posts, this has to do with his actual films and not the concert films.

I was replying to the name of the thread, not what others took this thread for.

"What's the best Eddie Murphy movie?"

RAW and Delirious were Eddie Muurphy movies, hence my choices.

Now go watch a Saved By the Bell rerun and quite trying to flame bait me, junior.

Alright i'm an Eddie fan, i've seen all his movies. The bottom line is, he has more good movies than bad movies. Almost everything he did in the 80's outside of Best Defense, Another 48 Hours, and Harlem Nights were gold.

48 Hours, Trading Places, Beverly Hills Cop, the Golden Child, Coming to America....these are all classic comedies. 'Raw' is good, and Delirious is arguably the best stand up concert ever.

Now in the 90's, he started to fall off a little bit. His movies did start to bomb, but even than, he was still putting out a few quality movies. For every Beverilly Hlls Cop 2 and 3, their was a Boomarang, which was a good movie. For every Distinguished Gentleman and Vampire in Brookilyn (which is underrated), their is a Nutty Professor.

Than he turned into a family man, and suddenly he started churning out Dr. Dolittle, Daddy Day Care, Shrek.....that's where his bread and butter is now, that's what he makes hits off of. Showtime and I Spy are movies the 80's Murphy would do, but they still bomb. Life is an great movie, with arguably Murphys best performance ever, and it bombed. Hell, some people said Murphy deserved an Oscar for Bowfinger, and still....bombed.

Point is, Murphys stock as an action/comedy star has dropped to an all time low. But as a family funny face, he's at a high.

Personally, I like all three BHC movies. But then, I don't care for either Nutty Professor, so it evens out.

Harlem Nights is one of my favorite movies of all time one of the top three Eddie Murphy movies with Coming to America and Trading Places and easily one of the greatest and most overlooked comedy/gangster noir pictures of the 90's. I have to rant a bit because I don't understand what people expected from this picture. While it does have some over the top moments it is actually a real movie with a very good plot invovlving Harlem's after hours spots during the early 1900's and some of the best understated comedy moments of any movie I have ever seen. Eddie's reaction to Tommy Smalls being dead is priceless, Richard talking to young Quick after the opening sequence is hilarious, Richard's initial reaction to Eddy saying he killed the Calhoun's girlfriend, and when the guy who picks up numbers calls home to his wife and daughter it is simply one of the funniest things I have ever seen. How he keeps a straight face is beyond me. If you like comedy that dosen't always hit you over the head like Old School or Saving Silverman( I really liked Old School, but the comedy is way over the top) please if you can find it rent it and watch it on its own merits as a movie. This is African American people's version of The Sting or Ocean's Eleven, the eptiome of style and cool.

Top 5 Eddie Movies

Harlem Nights

Coming to America

Trading Places

Beverly Hills Cop

Life

If you include the concert movies Delirious is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. It's just Eddie at his uncut best.
